It is pouring down rain today and flooding so my trip to work will be a wet on from being splashed on the 2 block walk to the busstop and being splashed the bus stop and walking through hight water a block to the store I work after I got off the bus. I am required to come to work in my uniform, cannot change when I get there, as that was mentioned at our last meeting. Last time I came in soaked the manager just kinda looked at me with disgust and said I needed to go get dried off. Duh, she drives around in her mercedes SUV so of course she never gets wet. I hate when people act like this as if a person deliberatly wants to get wet and walk around for 8 hours in wet shoes (God forbid I take my wet shoes off while at work). I have no choice and can't take a taxi and have no one to give me a ride so I have to take the bus and arrive wet. It is bad enough to get wet but to have to listen to people's stupid comments all day is worse. I can't call in.

I can't call in because we are staffed back to back and there isn't anyone to fill in for me and the person that works early would end up working a 14 hour shift, also the manager gets mad when people call in even when their children are sick.

My job is close to home but the weather means I can't walk because the sidewalks are constantly splashed by the cars speeding by. The bus ride is only 3 blocks and the other 3 blocks is walking.

People make stupid comments like that because they don't know what it's like to be in your shoes...wet or dry! If they ever were in your shoes, their success has blocked out any memories of it. I agree with one of the comments about trying to explain the situation and then asking her for any suggestions as to how to prevent it from happening again. One solution, would be to bring a dry set of clothing and shoes to change into once you get there, this of course may require you getting there a bit early so you don't p*** her off further. Where are you from? Does it rain that much that this is a constant problem? I feel for you on this one because it wasn't that long ago I had to do a lot of walking in all kinds of weather too. Just remember, I WILL offer you that seat on the bus if we're ever onthe same one!! Peace...and don't let the stupid comments get to you. Rise above it and make a joke about it. You're not being riled by their comments usually shuts them up!!

I understand what you are going through back in the days when i was raising 4 kids alone i had to bus it all the time and when it's raining do not stand near curb as idiots even seeing someone stand there come along and whoosh a big puddle all over you. with a uniform sometimes you only get 1 but if you have an extra carry it and a pair of shoes I know getting the bus sucks in itself but better to have extra than be wet all day wet shoes can cause blisters and infection on your feet and make it even worse standing on your feet all day. I hope soon you will be able to find a different job and have a car so you don't have to go through this. Just remember when you are driving and it's raining watch the people standing on the sidewalks. it is stupid to say you cannot change if your clothes are wet maybe go to a higher up than her or if there is a gas station nearby of course then you'd have to leave home earlier but until things change in your life just try to make the best have it. Here's to your car and new job and all the jokers out there who don't have to stand and wait on a bus look out for the people on the sidewlk when it's raining it is not that hard to change lanes

Explain the situation to her, and ask her to suggest how you should deal with it. You can explain that you don't arrive wet by your own choice, but you don't have a car and your options are limited. If she's a good boss, she may have some suggestions, or even a way to help. If not, she'll at least be a little more understanding.
All the same, it's your job to be presentable when you show up. It really is your problem, not hers. If this is a recurring problem and you can't find a way to deal with it, then you will need to find a different job. A good boss wants to help you succeed, but if you *can't* meet the requirements of the job, then at some point it really is your problem, not hers. Showing up sopping wet is not acceptable, especially in a job that has customer contact. You shouldn't expect her to accept it.

may i make a suggestion, when you travel to work in the pouring rain, and vehicles splash you on your two block walk to work, can i suggest you carry an umberrella, wear a raincoat, and wellingtons
this will stop you from getting wet, meanwhile spare a thought for the people who would love to have a job, those people who drive around in cars work for the priveledge and they pay for the priveledge, and remember its only water, your skin is waterproof.
stating the obvious is not bad manners, its just thoughtless. regards LF
PS , TRY THIS NEXT TIME YOU GET SPLASHED , WAVE AND SMILE , YOU NEVER KNOW IT MIGHT MAKE YOUR DAY MORE ENJOYABLE.

If you can't change at work, just wear some good rain boots and get some rain gear so that you don't get soaked. Could you find another job where the boss isn't such a tirant?

Jus dont let people get to you... that's the important thing. The fact that a woman such as yourself is trying to make a living is the important matter! Dont let their comments affect your well being.
I highly suggest that you take a change of clothing and change your clothes at a gas station or another building that is nearby. They dont have to know that you changed and you'll techniqually still be following the rules...
