Most of these are just stiff muscles and will get better with time. Something for pain, like Tylenol or Motrin may help. However, there are some serious things that cause stiff necks, so watch him carefully. If he cannot bend his neck down to his chest, if he gets a fever or is vomiting then he needs to see a doctor right away. Also, if the pain does not improve in a few days, he should be checked.

It'll be painful but have him try to stretch it out. If all else fails, take him to a chiropractor. Most give a free first visit/exam.

Try a gentle massage with lotion and some acetaminophen and if it persists see a doctor afte a couple days !
