Some teens commit crimes because they are not thinking of the consequences of their actions. In their minds the world is their cherry. Early successes in crime often lead them to believe they're infallible. They choose to push aside the possibility that they will eventually get caught and suffer for the life choices they made.

Interestingly, many law abiding adults often show a similar lack of thinking concerning their future. They don't plan ahead by saving, etc., for their retirement years. They in essence have a "it won't happen to me" mentality. Consequently, many end up in their golden years without the gold needed to make those years happy ones. The price is having to continue to work (rather than retire) just to be able to make ends meet.

Thinking is very important. Unfortunately, many teens (and adults too) do very little of it. And, in the end, they both (in their own way) pay for their life choices.

I'm retired now, happy, and without money worries, even though I never earned much money during my working years. Was a clerical worker for most of my life--you know that doesn't pay much. But, at some point (in my mid-fifties believe it or not) something snapped, and I started to see value in my employer's "one word" motto. That motto, incidentally, is THINK. Can you guess which large international corporation has the word THINK as its motto?

In closing, and to net this out, I think some teens commit crimes because they are simply not taking the time to think of the consequences of their actions; neither for themselves nor for their victims.

It's kind of a rhetorical question. What's even more bizarre is how people turn a blind eye to rural and suburban communities. Teenagers in "nice" neighborhoods do just as much as those in cities, but no one ever wants to confront it because the suburbs are "perfect". Most of the blame is on the parents. If they fail to recognize the wrong in their children and never do anything about it, the vicious cycle will continue.

Because now "they have rights"...
Teachers cannot be strict, parents cannot be strict...there is so much psychology and stress involved in raising a child, and what the law actually does is giving teenagers the same rights with an adult, while they cant think or take adult responsibilities.

Just look at the example the media (Not shows, but the news and other educational programming), their families, and other unrelated adults are giving them.
