That is probably your problem! You deleted it and didnt properly uninstall it! NEVER delete software! This does not remove it from your system and will leave registry keys in the registry! Now reinstall the old software and when its completed, uninstall it properly in add remove programs!

We had exactly this problem, we bought a new PC which had a version of nortons on it, at the same time we bought the most up to date Nortons - we went to install it and it told us to uninstall all previous versions - which we couldnt find (we hadnt deleted them, just couldnt find them!) It took several phone calls to support etc to eventually figure it out. To save yourself the hassle, if you DO have the previous version, the easiest way is to re-install that (make a note of where it gets put on your system), then go back in and uninstall it.
Then you are ready to install the new version.
It was a serious pain in the behind.

nicely you are able to bypass direct to there internet site i would not advise Norton because it quite is an extremely detrimental anti virus. Why not use AVG it quite is unfastened and much greater affective or certainly Avast lower back unfastened and lower back some distance greater suitable to Norton. i could use Norton ghost although many viruses stop gadget fix and this enables you to coach lower back your laptop if ever you have issues

look under program files\norton.....
(If its installed to the default location)
But before you do that download a windows program remover. There are quite a few and they work better than the windows one. If you have NAV installed on your system it will find and remove it.

Run the installation tool from new Norton and it will automatically detect and erase old version.

try this,
go to search, and search for any thing with the word norton, and delete everything.
if that doesnot work, just reinstall the older vergin , and uninstall it again.
