One step at a time. One goal at a time.
There is no set way that will work with everyone. Try reading some books and/or attending some seminars.

I'm pretty disorganized (always have been!), so I always look for new ways to get through the day w/o forgetting things! One feature that helps me incredibly is the "Calendar" on Yahoo mail! You just click on the tab, then type in the event you need to be reminded of, and how long before it you want the reminder. It will appear in your e-mail, which has saved me countless times!

For paperwork, I use an "In" and "out" box for bills, etc. If they're crucial (like "Pay the cable bill NOW!), I pin the bill on the wall, next to the calendar, as well as write it in. After they're dealt with, I have a short-term, portable file box, and put them in there (for 3-6 mos). That way, if there's a question about something, like a bill or credit card payment, I can get to the older info quickly.

For long term storage, get a file cabinet, preferably one that fits into your most-used room, near a phone, so it won't get buried. Use the hanging folders with clear labels and develop a filing system that makes sense for you. Some people do it alphabetically, others by year and still others by which things they deal with most often nearest the front (that's my method).

Also, eliminate clutter by immediately throwing out old and junk mail (get a shredder to guard against identity theft!). Recycle newspapers and magazines (making sure to remove a label w/your name, if any).

For more than one household member, you should each have your own mailbox in the house. My problem (one of them) is my spouse's refusal to file anything. Periodically, I get a box and dump all his clutter into it. That way, it can get sorted out, when needed...at least it's all in one place!

While organizing my computer area. I keep all important discs and manuals together, as well as back-up files. I also use a notebook, for jotting down things quickly, then transfer them (phone #'s, email addresses, etc.) into a daily planner. I find it helpful to have one organizer near the computer and another by the phone, for regular phone #'s and snail mail addresses.

This is the extent of my organization. I'm sure you'll get plenty of better ideas!

If you need to keep track of plans and arrangements I'd suggest to create a simple calendar in Excel. One day/row. Separate the months or weeks in some way you feel looks clear.

Then add columns with the major headlines, or only one field if you want to keep it simple:

January
1 Whatever thing going on on the first of January
2 content for Jan 2
3 Etc
...
...
February
1
2
3

This way is simple, you'll be able to plan ahead clearly and as a bonus you can keep easy track of what's been going on.

Have a try :)

Prioritise according to your needs and feelings or ... enjoy chaos, chaos is fine!!!! losing control, not knowing your next step, letting yourself flow with the moment, give some responsibilities to others, care for yourself and your loved ones. You cant have everything organised anyway :)
