If you truly trust God why the need for prayer. (S)he already knows before you ask what it is that you want and need. Realizing this within myself has stopped many a prayer and substituted it with a spiritual knowing.

JIBBA JABBA, actually I have know what superflous means for many years and is the exact word I need to convey my point. Please try not be so judgemental in the future. This is naturally the way I think and talk. It is totally conceivable that one can be educated to use the english language to a heightened degree.

What?, one might define prayer as asking God for favor but what you decribed seems more like simply communication. But then I could see it as a form of prayer too,

daisykris..., Prayer as a way to align ones will with God. Another great idea coming out of this post. This begs the question what if ones will is already aligned, is then prayer superfluous? Thanks for your imput,

Born Again Christian, God possesses both male and female qualities. In the Old Testament, Wisdom, another name for God, is called a she. And in the New testament God is referred to a mother bird protecting her chicks with her wings. Being Christian doens't mean there aren't things that can't be learned. One aspect of God is God the unknowable. Surely you are not claiming to know all aspect of the Almighty.

seraphim_...Prayer as an expression of just how much you desire something as well as giving ones undivided attention to the answer, yet another good reason for prayer. I'm impressed with many of the thoughtful answers given. Thanks to all who participated including The One Who Is.

mary eva "praying for something is like the same spirit as saying "thank you" its an affirmative way of letting Him know for sure". But my point is that God already knows for sure. If you know this and God knows this the middleman of prayer becomes less necessary. I understand what you are saying and understand the motives of people who do pray as I still pray myself. However my point is that you find it less and less necessary to pray as you become more spiritual aware.

I think this "spiritual knowing" is a form of prayer. Prayer benefits the person who prays, not God.

Getting what I want is hardly the point of prayer. Yes, there are many blessings which God is already willing to give me that he's just waiting for me to ask for, but really, I think prayer is more about aligning the will of us humans to the will of God.
It helps me to remember God every day, if I talk to Him every day, it helps strengthen my marriage when I pray with my husband, it's an important part of the repentance process for me to pray for forgiveness, I can evaluate how I'm doing spiritually every day as I put into words a report of what my day was like.
I'm not sure what you mean by "spiritual knowing," but I do know a silent prayer is just fine too.
best wishes

Praying is having a conversation with your father. It’s just nice to talk with him and to share everything. To thank him. To discuss any concerns. The comforting feeling that comes from God’s Spirit is so wonderful. I look forward to having a little quiet time for prayer particularly first thing in the morning. There’s nothing better than starting the day feeling the presence of the Spirit.

Prayer ( in my eyes anyways ) is a symbol of my faith. I have to talk to my friends so they understand me, so why wouldn't I talk to God if I wanted Him to understand me? Sometimes, I just pray with my thoughts, He's in there.:o] But I get what u are saying, but praying for something is like the same spirit as saying "thank you" its an affirmative way of letting Him know for sure. That's all.

It is commanded in the Word to pray for one another. To ask for wisdom when in need, etc.
Why would God ask us to pray in spirit & truth if it is superfluous to pray.
We are to pray in faith. Sometimes just speak in faith the victory. In all things give thanks for this pleases God.
You are believing a lie. But we need to abide in His Spirit & His Truth and honestly from our heart when we pray. Sometimes God gives abundantly above all we ask or think when we don't pray. We may have prayed it yrs before or someone is praying for us.
When God gives you your need before you ask. Pray & thank God. That is a prayer too. Prayers of thanksgiving.
When a person is born of God, they are spiritually reborn & have a relationship / communication with God. Prayer is actually just talking to God. It is a relationship.
Also, God wants us to ask specifically so we can give Him the Glory. Meaning, we can thank Him & Honor Him for His Love.
In Islam, there isn't the restored relationship with God, so one doesn't pray to God as in a relationsip or friend with God. They will praise God's name as God is distant. Jesus said that He is the Way , the restoration to God.

Prayer is the expression of faith and trust. God already knows what you want, but actually asking for it is a good thing.
Now, I know my boys want a certain board game. But actually asking for it from me shows their desire to have it, and lets me express whether they can have it or not (while having their undivided attention).
Besides, prayer isn't just about asking for things. It's also about giving in return. It's giving praise to God, thanking Him, showing your trust in Him. It's also about letting Him know that, "Your will be done, and my desires will fall in line with Yours".
God already knows this... but don't you think He likes having conversations with His children?

Prayer is how we talk to God. And since our Lord Jesus referred to God as Father, then your use of 'she' in referring to God shows me that you are not a Christian, for you deny what Jesus said.

our prayer consist mostly of praise and glorifying God, only minor recitation that we ask for favor, and we do it 5 times a day, and we called it the obligatory prayer.
