I love my cats and kittens, I have 6. We do have them outside because we just aren't home enough to care for them. But my cats are clean and loyal. Its just that my cats like to poop in my beautiful, green grass which drives my husband crazy! We have weekend BBQ's and family gatherings every weekend and my husbands has to pick up tons of poop everywhere! What can I do to make the poop somewhere else? Or make them stop pooping in the grass??? Is there something I can put in the yard? Please help!

"we just aren't home enough to care for them"--hmm...do they get better care when they are left outdoors to fend for themselves? I don't see the logic to your statement.

Contrary to Exodus' expert advise, cats don't always dig a hole for "poo." My cats recently started just going on the grass too. I think they only do this when it has rained and it is muddy so they are unable to dig a hole. The reason they dig a hole to poop in is so that they can cover it to hid the smell from predators. This is a basic instinct and I don't think they would poop without covering it if given the option to. Could it be that there is no place with open dirt in your yard for them to go in? If so, you might think of turning over a small patch of dirt for them, but if that does work, you still might have a problem when it's wet. Good luck!

How many cats do you have?
What they are doing is natural for them. If you want them to stop that, you need to get a litter box for them and clean it daily.
My uncle has an outside cat and he has a litter box for the cat. And guess what, the cat will use both the grass and the box for his duties. Does my uncle get freaked out about have to clean up poo from his yard before company comes over - nope. He knows it is part of having cats. Cats will poo on the grass.

Even responsible dog owners know that if you don't like the poop in the yard - you cant let them poop on the neighbor's lawns as that is rude and inconsiderate.

The answer is "Poop Patrol". Get a poop-scoop from the pet store and any disposable plastic bag (save those plastic shopping bags for this) and go over the yard - before your BBQ or visitors arrive.

It may sound like a hassle - but Pets have to do their poo. Its nature. If not in your yard then its the neighbors, and as I pointed out, that don't make happy neighbors. If you are not willing to take responsibility for your pets - you need to give them to people who will. OR just let the pets poop in the yard and let your husband gripe.

There is a spot in the back of my yard where the woods hit the grass I go in there a little bit and dump the cat litter from the litter box there. To my suprise when my cats go out there they use the old liter opposed to my yard! I hope you have a spot you can dump some I think it will cure your problem!

animals are part of nature. grass is part of nature. instead of worrying about what ppl will think of you when they find out your cats poop like anyone else's, why not think about how maybe you have too many cats. Cats dig holes to poo in. If you have a good sized yard, they shouldn't be making a LOT of holes. If there are a LOT of holes, then i think you might have too many cats for the size of your yard.

Well, you could make a big sand box for them, maybe they would use it, maybe not. Just don't let your kids play in it. Pleassse, cats are animals, be glad that they go outside. If your husband can't accept that you might just need to find another good home for them

Set up a little out-house with a cat pan in it, and keep putting them in there, so they get used to where it is, just like if it was in the house. You will have to empty it every other day, but at least you will know where "it" is, and it will keep the hubby happy.

Place a cat litter box in a corner, change & clean often. As for the lawn try spreading moth balls here & there. Not sure if this situation will change.

my friend actually has a littler box outside, her husband made a larger litter box out of wood and they put a garbage bag in it and litter, the cats use it, if the cats are in the house they will ask to go outside to do their business. good luck to you.
