They originally named them with letters because they didn't know exactly what they where. They just knew that there were certain vitamins that were necessary to live. They gave them letters A, B, C... As time when on they discovered that there were many B vitamins that are related (B1, B6, B12). The vitamins were named before we had the scientific ability to identify the exact chemicals. We now know what their exact chemical names are but we still use the letters because that is what we are used to doing and are easier to remember.
It is a lot easier to say B12 than Cyanocobalamin.

They take the first letter of the name

vit c - calcium
vit b - beta carotene etc.

they all have names it' just easier to use letters vit C is citric acid i think B6 is niacin i don't know them all
