TOUGH Love in the Bible is an act of shunning someone in open sin.
When reprentence comes, we are encouraged to restore the person to fellowship.
1 Corinthians 5:9 ¶ I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:
10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.
11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

Tough love is reasonable.
If my nearly grown child has gotten into an unacceptable lifestyle, I have to deal with him in order to protect my other children. That may mean having him incarcerated, institutionalized, or simply entrusting his care to God, as he leaves out on his own.
My love for him is not diminished, nor displaced. His best interest is in finding out the consequences for his behavior, after he's been reared in a more responsible lifestyle.

Christians do a lot of things that seem un-Christian and then claim justification through some obscure passage in the Bible or because some mysterious voice "called" them into action. It's about the best con job on the planet if you ask me. Either be Christian and live like it or shut the hell up already!

did you just put Christians and reasonable in the same sentence??? :) just kidding! When I was a Christian I (and still do) did my best to treat others the way I'd like to be treated.....to me that meant not pushing my views on anyone! Tough love should be a rare instance! Real love doesn't judge and people are more likely to turn to someone who they know will accept them no matter what! :)

Yes, we are to use the Law to show sin in the lives of others, but then we are to demonstrate the Love of God, by showing Grace.

I know in witnessing sometimes you just need to tell them they are going to hell and sometimes they just need to know Jesus loves them. Just let God lead ya and you will know what ya need to say.
