Yes, I would definitely hire a personal trainer if I had the spare money.

However, I would spend some time checking out the trainers available in your area and what they specialise in and what their qualifications and probably more importantly what their experience is.

There's no point in getting some 18 year old aerobics bunny if you're 40 and want to be a bodybuilder. Well, I say no point, there is obviously some point for your aesthetic pleasure but not for the purposes of personal training.

To use the cliche, it's horses for courses. Yes, if you get the right one, they will help you reach your goals by giving good advice and pushing and motivating you.

Make sure you get your nutrition plan right too (I don't use the word diet, it has taken on a very negative definition) - it's 50% of getting into shape.

I have a personal trainer and here's why:
*He knows the best diet out there, and has put me on it.
*He knows what exercises and weights are the best for achieving my fitness goals. There are some bonehead trainers out there, so make sure the one you hire is certified by a few certifying bodies (ISSA is a good one).
*I actually do my cardio.
*I have been sore, but I haven't injured myself.
*I have reached my goals, and have made new ones and I actually feel athletic now.

Mr. C
I attend a JJB Fitness Club and as part of the membership you are given a free Programme from a fitness instructor after discussing your individual needs with them.
You can always go back for free and change your Programme if your needs change.(so you only pay the Gym membership.)
Obviously, you have to motivate yourself to do your Programme, but if you can't do that; why spend money on fitness anyway?
Best Regards,
"Mac"

In theory it would be fantastic and I would because of the obvious help and support and encouragement, but on the other hand I dont think i'd have the money, time and dedication. I also wouldn't know where to start looking as I wouldn't want any Jo bloggs.

Depends. If you need the motivation and have the money, then, yes. But you can get fit without one, just takes more discipline. Shop around though. Find one you are happy with.
