Genetics and genetics only. Genes don't onl;y come from your parents. they both could be carriers of the gene for premature gray hair, and not manifest. It's only genes, even if one sibling is spared, it's still genes! ;o)

i am 41 and still not graying yet my sisters grayed in there 20s - my mom in her 30ish....and people ask me all the time why i am not graying yet (oh, there's a few like 8!lol) but hey, the difference of my sisters and myself (even my mom) was that I have never dyed my hair or used any stress treatments ever....not that that could be the answer. but I also know that emotional stress and/or stress of any kind including any medications can cause pigment to weaken (just like dyeing ur hair can....) The other difference is that I have always been very easy going & my sisters & mom are kinda uptight hence putting physical stress on their head! Good luck...I hope this was somewhat illuminating.

It's mostly hereditary. Look back farther than your parents and look to their brothers and sisters too & your other relatives.
When your hair turns white or gray when you're so young, you have been given a wonderful opportunity. You're going to appear older, wiser and more mature. Bone up on your trivia and knowledge because other folks are going to look to you for answers.'

I believe your hair genetics derive from your grandfather on your mother's side. For example, my father was silver at 30. However, my hair is still a luscious chestnut. Take that dad!

If you dye your hair a lot it can strip the color from your hair causing premature graying (happened to a friend of mine).

I know someone who had that happen to them. She is swedish. I don't know if nationality could have anything to do with it. Otherwise there is probably a gene that causes it.

It could be stress, or genetic. Even though your parents didnt turn grey, what about your grandparents? Hope that helps!! :-)

Some of your realtives (grandparents, great-grandparents, etc.) had this and you two got it. It's genetics.
I have a "Cruella DaVille" streak in my hair and I got it from my paternal grandfather.
