The OT is a modern document, historically speaking, just a few hundred years older than the New. The flood was part of the ancient folklore, like the creation story, which eventually found its way into the mythological tales of the bible.

I did not say that they were definitely lost in the flood, but it is a possibility. I am 30, by the way.
