To put it as simply as possible, there are 5 simple steps to how to gain weight, and here they are:

1) Count how many calories you eat in a normal day. Don't change anything, just eat like you normally would and count how many calories you consumed. This is an extremely important step, so try to be as exact as possible. Also, weigh yourself.

2) Starting the day after you counted calories, eat 500 calories MORE then you normally do. So, lets pretend that the day you counted calories you counted 2000. For the rest of the week, you would now eat 2500 calories a day. Instead of eating 3 big meals a day or eating all day all the time, spread those calories out over 5-6 smaller meals. Eat one meal every 2 and a half to 3 hours. To get big, you have to eat big! Remember that.
Look at your Body Fat Percentage at : http://www.intense-workout.com/body_fat.html

3) Weightlifting! Get in the gym and lift! This is another important step to how to gain weight, so make sure you are doing it correctly. For more information on weightlifting workout routines and splits, follow the link to the workout routines and splits section here:
http://www.intense-workout.com/workout_routines.html

4) At the end of that week, weigh yourself. You'll notice you're gaining just after one week! Now, don't expect to see a 10lb increase. Gaining anymore then 1 or 2 pounds a week is unhealthy and means you're putting on way to much fat. So look for 1 or 2 pound gains at the end of the week. Don't sound like much? You can be gaining 5-8 pounds a month!

5) Here's an important one. At some point, you will stop seeing weight gain. At this point, you will have to eat even more. So, when you stop gaining for at least 2 weeks, it means it is time to start eating an extra 250 calories a day. Every time you see you haven't gained weight for at least 2 weeks, add an extra 250 calories.

More tips for how to gain weight (extremely important!)

- Stay away from bad fat! Even though weight gain is your goal, you don't want to be gaining fat and eating junk. Get rid of the chips and candy. No more fast food, nothing fried. Stick to high protein, low (saturated) fat foods like tuna fish (and other seafood), chicken breast, turkey, lean meats, rice, pasta, fruits and vegetables, nuts, flax seed oil, etc.

Track your progress! Weighing yourself once a week is extremely important, but so is figuring out if the weight you are gaining is muscle or fat. In order to know this information, you need to also track your -

WATER! Drink water! Drink around a half gallon a day, more if you can. Yes that's a lot of water, but it's that water that will give you the energy you need to gain that weight!

- Sleep! YES! Sleep! The easiest, yet most over looked step. Get at least 8 hours of sleep a night. You're gonna need it!

Now the concern some people have about how to gain weight, is how to do it without putting on extra fat. Let me tell you how, YOU CAN'T! Unless you are using steroids, it is basically impossible to gain weight without putting on a little bit of extra fat. But hey, you want to see some weight gain right? Well then who cares about the little bit of extra fat you might put on while gaining. You will be able to burn that off later on, right now gaining is your main concern, so that is all you need to worry about.

Make sure you try to gain "Muscle Mass" not fat. Stay away from steroids! There are tons of "Bulking Products" out there so don't overdo it by taking a mass amount of stuff. They can be bad for the kidneys and liver. Your gain will be dependant on your investment and determination. Start the whole program with cardiovascular exercises and be easy on the weights and wait for the "body adjustment period" to take place. Remember that it is done in "steps" add a little weight, run a little further, add another exercise and then stay there until the body adjusts. After that, again the above

One last and important thing: Cellular Health "depends" and I stress "depends" on fresh raw green, orange and red vegetables and some fruits too.
Get a juicer and juice some of those fresh raw vegetables as we don't get enough of those "life giving chemicals, enzymes, vitamins and nutrients" . Carrot is a sweeter one to juice.
Remember that fresh raw is what you make. Store bought is pasteurised thereby destroying the enzymes and needed vitamins.

Good Luck and God Bless

As Always: Consult your Doctor before starting any diet or exercise program.

Twenty years ago I had a bad attack of gastroenteritis and went down to 103 pounds - at 5ft 6in that was overly skinny! You could see all the bones. I was normally a slim person, but not that slim. So I made an effort to eat three proper meals a day, healthy homecooked stuff, but actually making the time to sit down and eat slowly. I also had slightly larger portions than I would normally have had. I used to work out for about half an hour a day, so went back to that as well, and fairly soon I had put on about 15 pounds. But it was healthy weight, not from sugar and oily food as some people have suggested.

(After having children my metabolism changed and now I am having to make sure I don't put on too much!)

Tips To Increase Weight Naturally
Being thin is good but being very thin and underweight is not good. You should consult a physician if you are a very very thin person. Lots of medical tests would help in revealing the root cause of the problem.

These are some points, which would help in increasing your weight:

Eating: The first important point to increase your weight is to eat well. Eat more than you burn calories. Eating food, which contains more fat is good for people who are thin. Drinking milk, cheese, chicken meat etc are some foods, which contain more fat.

Exercise: Most people think that thin people should not exercise, as they could get even thinner. But it is recommended that they exercise so that they feel hungrier and eat more. Taking nutritious

food would help the body gain weight. Do not lift heavy weight dumbbells in a gym; instead opt for low weight and do more repetitions.

There are lots of weight gain supplements available in the market, but they are not recommended. Instead have good amount of protein-enriched foods, fruits and products, which contain more fat. Eating lots of protein and fat, as it is very helpful in increasing your weight. So why wait! Start NOW.

weight maintenence is all in the math, to gain weight you must do the opposite of those who want to lose it- you need to consume more calories than you expend- but i recomend you think about what kind of weight you want to put on- if you just want to plump up a bit- more calories, less excercise will do that- but you'll be adding just fat. what's healthier is to add muscle- it will add tone and strength to your body and while making you look solid and healthy- not chubby. plus you'll find you enjoy your own body more- you won't get winded, you'll be able to lift the heavy stuff etc... strong is sexy-
look into weight training- whether you're a girl or a guy- guys are always more attractive when firmer, and girls are too- and i'f you're a girl don't avoid weight training because you don't want to look like the muscle women in those crazy fitness magazines- they take steroids to look like that- women don't naturally have the amount of testosterone to ever look like that- all you'll do is firm up- tone up and your clothes will fit better than ever!

gainign weight is as simple as eating more than you burn - just like losing weight is as simple as eating less than you burn. There is no magic to it.

You first need to determine how many carolies you should consume to maintaine your body weight - you should be able to find a calculator on www.bodybuilding.com or www.drsquat.com that will help you calculate it.

I would HIGHLY recommend weight-training. This way, you will put on muscle/lean body mass, instead of just getting a flabby, sagging, unhealthy body.

I have same problem, the answer is not about eating crap actually, which is suprising.
The answer is eat more healthy food, plenty of carbs, vegies, and protein, and then go to the gym ever day and work out. I have put on 10kg, using protein powder too helps. eating **** food will make you sick and do nothing for your health.

High carbs and fat, especially at night.

But if you want to put on muscle weight, fairly intense workouts every other day coupled with a high protein, low-fat intake should help.
