No, it can cause mouth, lip, and tongue cancer. It just affects different parts of the body. But it's still very addictive.

No, it is not less harmless. Interesting you phrased it that way. Are you trying to choose between the two? Neither are good for you in any way. At least with the chewing you are not giving out second-hand chew! Take your pick, mouth/throat cancer or lung cancer. Granted you may not ever get either one but why increase your chances. The people who say that they have been doing it all their life or know someone that has are not being very smart in the advice category. Be smart! Look at pictures of people that have had their face and throat eaten away with cancer! Not a very pretty sight. They may be alive but at what price. Take another look at the person that is so hooked on cigarettes that they are still smoking through their trach.!!

Honestly, I do not know, it is confusing. I do not smoke, but I know people who do, and they have been smoking all their lives and they are still healthy, one is 70 years old, and have not had lung cancer or the other nasties the anti-smoking people try to shove down our throats. Know someone else who been dipping for over ten years, they never had sores, lost their lower jaw, or been plagued with cancer in the mouth. I've been around second hand smoke all my life, and I haven't died yet from it, and I am a very healthy person, too. It is confusing, I guess all I can tell you is, don't chain smoke or. . . chain chew? Moderation is the key.

The only reason chewing is better than smoking is that it effects only yourself, rather than making others breathe the smoke as well, but tobacco is dangerous and bad for you no matter what form it's in.

Absolutely not!

That would be an open invitation for oral cancers which includes everything you have in your mouth. Had a friend who had seen patients who had to have all their teeth removed along with the jaws and part of the tounge. It is a very bad cancer to have if you think about the quality of life. If you have breast cancer you get rid of the boob but when you don't have teeth and the jaws to get a danture or tougue to talk....

Mind as well keep blowing them butts so you can get cancer in your lung instead. Atleast you will die faster with that.

Nope, they are both harmful. Actually you can get jaw and mouth cancer quicker than you can get lung cancer! Dont do either, I quit smoking recently and have never felt better. Both my brother and my husband use chewing tobacco and both complain about gum and tooth sensitivity. And their gums bleed when brushing their teeth.

No they are about equal. Smoking causes lung cancer, and chewing tobacco causes cancer of the mouth. It can actually eat up your gums. Sounds gross doesn't it!
