You do have to use bleacjh unfortunately. It is the only thing that will lift red hair. However, you would still need to use bleach due to having your coloured.
It is one of the first rules you learn in colouring.
Colour doesn't lift colour!

My daughter is a natural redhead and she just got a great style from a friend who is a hairdresser -
She dyed the underneath chocolate brown, and did a few blonde streaks in the red at the top and front (Yes, she had to bleach the streaks before blonding them) - it looks great on shoulder length hair, and and growing out really nicely too.

I would bleach it just to be on the safe side, I have dark brown hair and i have dyed it many times. You dont want to end up with orange or banana yellow hair. All brands work pretty much the same, just use the mousse kind and not the cream, its not so messy!

Listen to the expert - if you go from dark brown to lighter without bleaching it will go orangey red or will have no affect at all.

I have red hair and if you mix red and blond you get orange, so I wouldn't go blond unless you are getting it done at a salon. In fact, if you are going any shade lighter it is safer to have it done by the experts, that way if it goes wrong they have to fix it for you.

I'm a redhead. Apparently our pigment is so strong to go lighter we have to have our hair bleached first. Sounds too much hassle for me but good luck if you decide to go for it. Why not just have some highlights put in?

it is true, you will have to bleach it. I am also a hairdresser and I know aswell that you cannot lift colour with colour. If you wish to go light again you will have to bleach it.

I would go to a professional and get it done properly, it depends how blonde you want to go, but when my friends who had dark hair wanted to go lighter, she used a home dye kit and it went orange, and she had to spend a fortune sorting it out.

try dropping down a shade every few weeks that way you can transform your colour gradually. stick to the well known brands.
there is always bleach(peroxide) but that can leave your hair dry and brittly
