We bought a 36in TV from an Estate Sale, told it worked we didn't check it at the sale due to the low cost. HOWEVER it has a permanent area at the top left where it is discolored (like effected by a magnate).

Is there a way to reverse the effects from this? The TV is great otherwise.

veteran garfield is very definately wrong ! the other two are correct, however if you unplug the tv from the wall a few times letting it go cold before switching on again you may well find that the auto degauss will fix the problem for you !!!Cheers Pete

The 'shadow mask' needs to be demagnetized using a degaussing coil.
any TV repair shop can do it for you cheaper than buying a coil yourself. coils cost about $60.00 and a shop should DeGauss for around $20.00 call around for best price

sounds like the picture tube is going out, the only way to fix this is a new tube. Check with a local TV repair shop, it could be that I am wrong.
