You don't have to have a religion or be religious to be a good human being.

Religion itself does not make someone a good person, morality does. The individual religions have 'guidelines', or 'laws' or 'commandments' that the people of that religion are to follow.

It is up to each person to want to be a morally good person, and even those who do not accept God as real can be considered as morally good in the eyes of the society in which they live.

So, the bottom line is, what constitutes a 'good human being'?

The reality is that religion is the way we behave ourselves.

Religious systems/institutions are established be Humans. Humans are perfect makers of mistakes, intentionally and unintentionally.

The Law common brought by any prophet any where in any time, is the Golden Rule.of "Treating others as one would like for ones self to be treated."

Following that rule opens the door for cooperation, understanding, fellowship, communication, constructive effort, Love, Peace, & Happiness.

Laws of countries evolved in some way from religious beliefs. Communities sense of justice against people who wrong others comes from religion. Why is killing considered bad if there was no commandment to not kill. In some way or the other the morals of atheists too are shaped by the religious and cultural influence of the country they live in. A realised spiritual person feels no need for religion later.

Religion itself is cruel, because that word can mean thousands of things, But SALVATION is not a Religion, it is grace & mercy. You ask about dressing. I will use my wife as an example. She has long hair, wears a long dress down to her ankles, Not only in church but wherever she goes, she does not wear shorts or pants. I myself, I do not smoke, drink, or cuss, I do not have long hair, I do not wear cut off jeans, I wear a shirt. Religion is many ideals, But Salvation is Grace & Mercy, too many people tries to do something in the name of Religion, But a True Christian will not just be religious, But they will live it 24/7

Well I get the question but I do not have a religion. But if you think about it, the elderly live very slow paced (pretty boring) lives, so practicing a religion & going to a building every week is a great way for them to feel close to God. But as for young people I feel as tho they use it like this" If I go to church this week I can ask for forgiveness anyways so I can steal this or lie about that (or what have you)". They see religion as insurance, "This is how to get to heaven," But I disagree ~ for that isn't love of God if you willingly disobey His commandments. If you love someone, u want to be good to them & be faithful. So I'm just trying to say it serves a different purpose to all of us. I love God & faithfully follow His laws, I don't like church tho ~ too brain washy for me, I like my brain, well, mine (& God's!):o]

paradise,
I find that
religion' helps people to think that they are good. And it helps people think that they could be "better." But Jesus didn't say become moral and be saved. And he didn't say, be religious and be saved. He did say "there is none Good but God."

But people WANT to think they have to be good in order to go to heaven. That is a deception. There is none good but God.

So what is it then? Who is going to heaven? Those that trust in God through Jesus Christ. He said, "None come to the Father, except by me."

A religion will set upon those that follow it a set of guidelines that one must follow that others can say, "That is good" or "That person is good." But as I said, in God's eyes none are good.

if you are religious, then obviously you want to go to heaven say, if you are catholic, which i am.
people have come up an acronym for the bible.. basic instructions before leaving earth. To get to heaven, we must be good people, pure-hearted and righteous. So that's how religion helps us become better people. Don't sin. Don't breakt the ten comandments, if you do, then repent.

The 'religion' gives one a pattern to follow. In Christianity, that pattern comes from Jesus. In Christianity, 'for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God'. (We all goof, but try to get there hopefully).

Islam is a religion, but not in the western meaning of religion. The western connotation of the term "religion" is something between the believer and God. Islam is a religion that organizes all aspects of life on both the individual and national levels.

Islam organizes your relations with God, with yourself, with your children, with your relatives, with your neighbor, with your guest, and with other brethren. Islam clearly establishes your duties and rights in all those relationships.

Islam establishes a clear system of worship, civil rights, laws of marriage and divorce, laws of inheritance, code of behavior, what not to drink, what to wear, and what not to wear, how to worship God, how to govern, the laws of war and peace, when to go to war, when to make peace, the law of economics, and the laws of buying and selling. Islam is a complete code of life.

Islam is not practiced in the mosque only, it is for daily life, a guide to life in all its aspects: socially, economically, and politically.

Islam is complete constitution. Thus Islam keeps the Muslim away from confusion, because Islam is logical and rational. Allah is one. Allah is one Allah has no sons. Allah is not associated with trinity. Allah does not kill to save. No mediation is required between Allah and man. Islam organizes human nature, but does not go against it. There is not a class of clergy in Islam; nor is there celibacy. Islam is complete way of human life.
