I've always used one of the attachments on my normal food processor. Better to have a machine that does everything I'd say. My husband got a smoothie maker from his brother for his birthday present. That was 5 August and it's sat on the kitchen side ever since... Don't waste your money on an expensive one if you buy a pure smoothie maker. Personally I would recommend a food processor.

Jeremy,

Don't' waste your money on an "smoothie maker". What you need is a commercial blender-a Vitamix. You can get them on eBay, or other on line sellers or just go down to your local restaurant supply shop. You can get a very basic model for under $200. Be sure to get one with the ice blade assembly and not the food prep blades-big difference Features your looking for, power, noise and warranty. Once you get into the commercial variety for private use that's all you really need look for.

Honestly ?? I think theyre all a waste of money - I brought a top of the range one and used it a few times before its gone to the back of the cupboard. Far better to buy yourself a good hand held food processer - thats what most people use to puree fruit and make smoothies.
