it can take a couple weeks or so to recover from the chicken pox, i dont believe there is any medication for it, you can put calamine lotion on the chicken pox to lessen the itching. if possible anybody that hasnt had the chicken pox should stay away from the person that has it.

After a person has been exposed to Chicken Pox, it takes 11-21 days for the rash to appear with 14-16 days being most common. Once the blisters begin to appear, it takes 3-5 days for all the chicken pox to appear. About a week or so after the rash appears, the blisters will be crusted over and then they are no longer contagious. However, a person is contagious 2 days prior to the eruption of the chicken pox. Medication is usually just Tylenol for pain and fever, calamine lotion for the itch, and possibly Benadryl if the doctor says it's OK. There is a rare complication called Reye's Syndrome that can occur with taking aspirin with Chicken Pox, so stick with acetaminophen. Oatmeal baths help with the itching. Plenty of fluids and lots of rest will help the recovery as well. Chicken Pox is a virus, so it is spread like a cold, by sneezing and coughing. As with the prevention of many common illnesses, wash your hands frequently, cough and sneeze into your shoulder or a tissue (not your hands), and keep your immune system running well by eating healthy. If you have had Chicken Pox, it is unlikely you will get it again. Although, a person who has had a very mild case may get it a second time, but not usually. Adolescents and adults who get Chicken Pox sometimes get a severe case and there is a prescription drug that may be given to reduce the severity. There is also a chicken pox vaccine that is commonly give to children at their 1 year well baby check up. The Chicken Pox virus remains in your body and sometimes reappears in some people later in life in the form of Shingles, a painful rash that appears along nerves.

What home treatments are available for chickenpox?
Scratching the blisters may cause them to become infected. Therefore, keep fingernails trimmed short. Calamine lotion and Aveeno (oatmeal) baths may help relieve some of the itching. Do not use aspirin or aspirin-containing products to relieve your child's fever. The use of aspirin has been associated with development of Reye syndrome (a severe disease affecting all organs, but most seriously affecting the liver and brain, that may cause death). Use non aspirin medications such as acetaminophen (commonly known as Tylenol®).
Is there any way to prevent chicken pox?
Yes. A vaccine has been available since 1995, and the American Academy of Pediatrics and other organizations now recommend the shot for any child over 12 months old who hasn't already had the illness. Since the vaccine contains a live — although weakened — varicella virus, your doctor may not recommend the vaccine if your child is undergoing chemotherapy or has a weakened immune system.
The vaccine causes few side effects in healthy children. The downside is that it also fails to completely immunize 10 to 30 percent of the kids who get it. But vaccinated children who do end up with chicken pox tend to have only a very mild case and may not even develop a rash.

1) It can take a while to recover. I think I was sick for a week when I had them. You don't just get pox, you also get sore ears, throat, etc. It's very unpleasant.
2) I'm not sure if you get medication. I didn't take any. I just rubbed calamine lotion on to stay the itching.
3) You're actually most contageous before you even know you have it. So if you've been exposed to someone with the chicken pox, and you've never had it before, best to stay away from others. Wash hands frequently and don't share drinks.

Chicken pox is very contagious. Usually before the spots break out so before you know someone has it, you may have caught it.
The itchiness lasts about 5 - 7 days and the spots disappear gradually. Try not to scratch too much because it will elave scarring.
The only thing you can really do with chicken pox is take an anti inflammatory and use something like calamine lotion to dry the spots out quicker.
Personally i think everybody, including myself, encounters chicken pox at some stage in their lives

Chicken pox are contagious before the spots appear and after the spots appear so they are contagious for 1-2 weeks. When ALL the spots form scabs they are no longer contagious.
The virus is airborn and can also be caught from contact with the infected person & things they have handled as it lives outside the body for a time.
Flu like symptoms can be treated with paracetamol. Itching can be treated with condys crystals & calamine lotion. Scratching will cause scarring.
Isolation is the only way to prevent others getting it.
See a doctor to confirm the condition and get a certificate before returning to work/ daycare, etc.

There is no medication to be taken for chicken pox. If you are in pain you can take a pain reliever however if its a child do NOT give them Advil as that has caused death in some children. You are contageous for a few days---3 or 4.... Do not scractch the pox off as they will scar. Take oatmeal baths to aid in relief from the itching.

Usually benydril and tylenol are taken for chicken pox. It is acutally communicable BEFORE the rash, by the time the rash begins the communicable phase of the illlness is over. The only way to prevent it these days is by getting the shot as a baby...there was no preventative before the shot was devloped.

well u can prevent it wit vccine.. if u know someone has it.. and u could get it as well.. u can get vaccinated.. but doctors nomally say its better to get it when ur young.. coz it isnt as bad.. it takes around two weeks.. spreads the most when the chicken pox is drying and falling off.. DO NOT SCRATCH!!! i have marks even on my face :).. but u can get cream for itchiness.. when having chicken pox..try to eat more cooling food... bout meds during chicken pox im not too sure.. i don remeber takin any..other than cream for itchiness. it isnt so bad.. and doctors normally tell u to leave it and le it take its full course.. coz most ppl only get it once in their life.. so i guess the chances of gettin it again is less if u let it take its full course. i guess thts bout it..
