In the PDF Articles sometimes you see PP(page number)is that number the same as the pages of the real book?

Can we say if we convert a complete book to a PDF form this range shows the number of the book pages?

I mean that pp which is usually at the beginning of pdf articles about the published pages.whats the relation between those page numbers in that article with the pages of the real book for example.
