I have a greyhound who was having neck pains that made him yelp, almost scream at times. He had x-rays taken and has calcium deposits on his neck. Surgery is not a safe option so he went to a homeopathic vet and had 3 laser acupuncture treatments, as well as w chiropractic treatments because his spine was out from him compensating for the pain. That was over 1 1/2 years ago and he hasn't even had to go back once and has been totally pain free. So if this was my dog, I'd consider going to a homeopathic vet to find out what's wrong.

I had a Great Pyrenees with this problem. She'd also drag a foot when her neck was acting up. Her's were like a muscle spasm or perhaps a pinched nerve, but the vet could never find the exact cause. When the dog was in pain, I'd have her face me and then massage her neck and shoulders, slightly pulling on the head as I worked her over. She also loved the electric massaging tools, all the other dogs ran for th hills. I never had to sedate her, but I would have to massage her for an hour or more until she finally laid down and slept. A day or two and she'd be better. I like the answer about consulting other physical therapy type people. Also ask you vet about something that might calm her while you work on her. My girl did OK with aspirin, but she'd need to have food in her stomach first.

go see a different vet. It is really important, since neck pain is a serious issue. You'll want some type of x-ray and rpeferably an MRI to see what is wrong with the cervical vertebrae (as I assume that might be the issue here)

Hiope the little guy feels better soon. I would also suggest getting a second opinion. I had chronic nck pain for about 5 months. They never really did find out what was wrong, but after 2 mo of physical therapy, it is much better now.

Take it to another vet. You need a second opinion right away. It could be a number of things. Your dog needs to get x-rays.
