In the Original version of the Apostles Creed it says "Jesus descended into Hell" and then "ascended into Heaven". Why would Jesus ever descend into Hell?

More correctly, Jesus descended to the abode of the dead, where the souls of the just were waiting to be freed from captivity, and taken to heaven.

These were the "captives" that Isaiah spoke about, which would be freed by the Messiah.

For the record, Jesus never sinned. He never spent a moment in what we know as the eternal hell, which was prepared for Satan and his angels, and he didn't pay the full price for everybody's sins.

Jesus destroyed Satan's dominion over mankind. Jesus became the new and sinless head of all mankind. Jesus gave man freedom, and his Father offered mankind forgiveness for sins, per Jesus' request.

All who faithfully accept Jesus' free gift of salvation and are baptized, may be saved.

All others remain dedicated to Satan, and will likely share in Satan's eternal fate.

Jesus descended into Hell for three days because He had taken the sins of all of mankind upon Himself. He descended into Hell under the weight of those sins. While He was there, He preached to the inhabitants of Hell, saving those souls and making them fit for Heaven. Having done so, the sins of mankind fell from Him, and He was resurrected. After visiting with His disciples for a short time, He was lifted bodily into Heaven, Himself.

First, The Apostles did not have a creed, But a Doctrine (Acts 2:42) The reason Jesus had to descend to the lower parts of the earth ( Ephesians 4:7-10) All Old testament Saints when they died they when to Paridise & at that time Paridise was in the heart of the earth, So Jesus had to preach to those souls that was in the paridise part of hell, Not the place call torment but the place call paridise, Remember the story of the rich man that died & went o HELL (the place of torment) He ask to tell his brothers not to come there, But the bible says there was a great gulf between the paridise part of Hell & the tormenting side of hell. All those That was in the paridise part of hell , they looked to their plan of Redemption, They look TO CALVARY, we look back to Calvary Therefore Jesus had to preach to those souls that was in Prison, (CAPTIVITY) or we can say a place waiting for their redemption, When Jesus rose from the dead he brought with him all those souls That was in Paridise, That is why when Jesus rose from the dead, He also brought paridise with him, that is why it says that when Jesus rose from the tomb He brought Every saint with him, & that is why the bible says that THE GRAVES were opened, whose graves, those Old Testament saints, That is why David could say that he knew that his soul would not be left in hell (paridise) Now Paridise is in the heavens, & not in the earth. ONly Hell ( the place of torment) is now the only thing that is left in the heart of the earth & one day that will be taken out of the earth at the Great White Throne Judgement, over in Revelations, & hell itself will be cast into the lake of fire, Once that is done this earth will not have any traces of sin, Because the lake of fire is not even in or on this earth, Therefore this earth will be redeemed back to God, & Jesus then will give all his power back to his Father & we are now looking at the ETERNAL AGE. So Jesus had to go the preach to those souls in paridise part of hell, Not the tormenting side of hell, & Jesus rose from the dead bring with him those Old Testament saints with him & also brought Paridise with him too.

He did go to Hell & preached then came out of the grave with many of the saved who went to Heaven. The "Apostle's Creed is not part of the scriptures. It is from the Catholic Church doctrine & has been changed several times.None of the Apostles wrote it.

How would Christians know how to fear H e l l if a visit by Christ did not describe the horrors to be found there? Also a clever bit of propaganda. Since early Christians were not prepared to renounce the Hebrew Bible, they planted this idea that Christvisited H e l l and upon returning the Patriarchs of The Bible accepted Christ as being DIvine and followed him to Heaven.

Peace...

As a Catholic by baptism and attending Catholic School from Pre-School through 8th grade, I can tell you we had studied this very thoroughly.

Jesus descended into hell for the 3 days before he rose from the dead. This is a symbolism of his body being of the flesh and for the mistakes that he had made in his earthy life. Also this was to show that even him (being as great as he was) still had to pay the price for his sins.

On the 3rd day he rose from the dead, from which he made his appearances to Mary and to a few of his followers.

Then he ascended into heaven.

The Greek word translated in some Bibles as "hell" is "Hades." It merely means the common grave of all mankind - not a single grave, but the common grave. It is where all people go when they die. And Jesus died. So that is where he went. If you read Acts 2:31, it plainly tells you that this is where Christ went when he died. Some translations read hell, others Hades, and still others "the grave." Because that is all it is.

This was the whole purpose of the spirit that lived as
Jesus Christ, coming into the World.
Not just to make a dramatic statement, but to use His
personal spiritual power, (BLOOD), to purge our reality
of negative spiritual energies, and open the doors back up
to Spirit.

'Hell' here, I think, has to do with the Greek 'Hades', which is a reference to Jesus' death and going to the grave. Not the hell that is the lake of burning fire where sinners will cry and gnash their teeth. Jesus never sinned on earth and has nothing to pay for as one of the interlocutors in the preceeding answers claimed. The catholic church never taught and will not teach that Jesus sinned on earth and has to pay to his sins. Certainly the person who said catholic church taught that is a fake and an impostor.
