There is a trick, if you don't have lemon or lime (which are natural ant-oxidants). If you are using avocado like in "Guacamole" which is basically mashed avocado... put the pitt (seed) in your dish, it helps keep the flesh from turning brown.
If you are just using it sliced in a salad, your salad dressing (especially vinagrette) will do the trick, just don't make your salad too early, or add the avocado slices at the last minute.

Yeah it's the acidulation of the citrus juice that keeps the advocado from oxodising & turning brown.
Just don't put nearly as much vinegar on as you would lemon juice otherwise it may be too tart for ya.

Vinegar will work just dandy...if you are ever stuck again and you have a vitamin C tablet in the house, you can crush it up and it will keep things from turning brown...Ascorbic acid. FYI

It will slow down the discolouration process (as will lemon juice) but will not stop it. The only way to stop it is to prevent air getting to the avocado - use cling film.

Vinegar will work just fine. I would not put too much on though, just a little drop.
