My son is 24y/o, he has been watching me on YA but not paying close attention to what I was doing. He asked me about it and I told him it was a Q&A format. He asked what catecories I went under so I told him R&S,S&C,Politics and Govt. He went to YA and went to several of the ones I mentioned to him. The next day I asked him how he liked YA. He sat down and said"I really don't understand why you want to fool with that site at all. Do you know about the guy that calls himself thw what should I do retard?" I knew where this was going (my husbands older sister was injured at birth , a forceps injury during delivery, and she is mentally challenged. She is sweet and innocent has the mentallity of about a 3-4 year old child). I told him yes I didn't answer his questions. He said"Why go somewhere to respond to other's ignorance?" He pointed out that we had to deal with that in day to day life, why go somewhere for entertainment where people are so crude? Any thoughts.

Actually abu my Avatar is not as physically attractive as I am. I live in America and even though I am 47 years old I am very fit, weigh 118lbs and I have blonde hair and green eyes. So yes dear my Avatar is almost straight on.Thank you for attempting to insult. Try again.

Thanks Star, my son is not going through anything, he is 24, has his own business is happy, well adjusted, married to his highschool sweetheart. He was taught as were all the grandchildren that Aunt Marie is special and is not to be laughed at or mocked. He was also taught to respect people who are mentally or physically challenged. He was and is automatically turned off by people making fun of anyone with those problems. He was I believe surprised more at me than at others for in his mind, giving credence to or wasting my time on these types of questions. He is very practical and does not think he has time to waste on something that appears shallow to him.

Gee peanut who are you angry at? My son is 24 and he is doing exactly what you suggest he is staying away from something that he tinks is a waste of time. I believe that you hit his point exactly, he has to deal with ignorance on a day to day basis in person, I think that his point to me was why do you want to deal with it for entertainment purposes? As for the bi-polar thing, I have a master's in nursing, don't need a psych lesson form you thanks though.

I ignore him. The word "retard" is a disgusting and offensive word, and I don't understand why everybody thinks that his/her questions are funny. I find them lame.
They can't really ban him/her. He/she just keeps coming back.
If everybody ignored him, he'd go away, but I don't see that happening.

I let some of the questions get under my skin a month ago so my first Q here was; why do people ask such trivial questions? ( I misspelled trivial and got raked for it) but some of the answers I got were so cool I suggest you click my id larry t and read them and perhaps have your son read them. I now pretty much stick to the good advice I got from other members. I even contacted a couple of them and thanked them personally. I found there are some like minds here and some good people. Then there are the others who sometimes raise the hair on the nape of my neck. I have come to realize that there are some sick and very deranged ones on here also. Them I can do nothing for I sense they are to far gone so goodbye. It's just the way it is. Sometimes I see Q's that are so bad I want to strike out but I also realize they are there to keep me from doing what I really need to do here If I truely wish to help someone. So yeah you do have to surf through here with a certain amount of discernment. And a bit of a thick skin at times. When you preview an answer you wrote and you feel so good about it in your heart there are no thoughts of those others in that moment, no room for them. I just keep going for that space but once in awhile I do answer one of those others questions. Believe me I do hit them below the belt but I do it with the truth as I understand it and I do have a good understanding. Perhaps they need a good punch once in awhile.

How old is your son? 2 years old? If he can read already I am shocked. Or did you mean he is 24 years old if so then I am not shocked he can read.
Anyhow, it is fun to go on yahoo and read the questions. Some I choose to answer and some I do not. Being in the "real" world where we actually talk to people face to face we will find some who are ignorant, childish etc just as we do here on yahoo. We choose to either socialize with these people or we choose not to.
I don't think we should not get on yahoo because of people who we believe are childish etc. We wouldn't lock ourselves up in our homes to stay away from those kinds of peole.
Sometimes answering a persons ingnorant question is a good thing. Perhaps they don't mean to be ignorant. Retard used to be the term in the psychology field untill they deemed it dis-repsectful. I think the correct term now is mentally challenged and for the more severe disorders it is pschological disorders.
A person in not bi polar, a person "suffers from bi-polar.
I think some people intend on being ignorant and some don't know that they are untill someone shows them a different way of thinking.

I ignore the crude questions, for the most part. I haven't even read any of the WSIDR questions.
Your son does have a point. Most of the questions here are idiotic. However, I think that many are still asked in sincerity. I try to answer honestly. Perhaps, in some small way, I'm helping start a dialog between religious people and atheists. At least we're all hearing each other's views. Even if you disagree with someone's outlook, you have to think about it in order to respond to it. Having everybody think about everybody else's outlook is a good thing, IMO.

For some people that is a logical way of looking at it. My husband doesn't like to talk on the phone. My daughter likes to write letters to people. Everyone has their own method of communicating with other people. This forum is just one way I like to find common bonds with people from all over the world and be able to give my opinions on things and often be made to rethink those opinions when seeing another side of the issue at hand. Yes there are crude people here but there are worse TV programs and Music today is just about all crap but you have the right to not subject yourself to any or all of that if you so desire. It is just personal choice.

Because Yahoo Answers is just like panning for gold. You can put your pan in the river and sift it for days and days without seeing anything. Then when you least expect it a real nugget will break through from all the mud and silt. A lot of people come here to preach garbage and hate. But there are some who genuinely want to help. We are all guilty of being a little hasty to answer someones question just so we can get our two points, but sometimes we can connect with someone and help them.

I think that this forum can sometimes be enertaining because of the crudeness of some answers. Not the insulting or obnoxious answers though, as i think you son was offended by.
I come here as sometimes i get wonderful answers, other times just funny ones. I hope i return those type of answers sometimes, but only under a flash of inspiration. It sometimes happens.
So. I think there is a mixture of people on here who give a mixture of answers. To me that IS entertaining.

YA isn't just about entertainment. It's also about speaking your mind on a variety of issues and being heard. Personally, it's my hope that ignorant people might some day become more enlightened through exposure to more reasoned points of view.

He has a very good point, and most of the questions answered go unheard.
"About 85% of the people on the world [or Yahoo Q&A] don't get it. The others do." Anonoumous
But it goes to the point that you may plant hunderds of seeds hoping all well take; but, knowing that even if one comes out of it all the effort was worth it. good luck.

Just explain to him that we have to deal with idiots on a day to day basis anyway. So why should Q&A be any different?
Also tell him some people have come to the Lord on Q&A. Because they'd never read the Bible and learned about God here.
