Using words like "kekkle" instead of kettle... do they not realise it makes them sound ridiculous?

OOH I hate that! Oh and I hate women or men who baby talk other adults. It's one thing to talk like a baby to a baby, but if I hear a woman speaking in a high-pitched voice and acting like a baby I want to smack her.

Aldults use baby talk b/c they think it's cute to use it around babies but really they shouldn't do it too often or the baby will think that's how it should talk.
What annoys me too is aldults who teach children will talk to me like I'm a child. They won't use baby language but still there voice goes a octive above the usural range. I'm 20 years old for goodness sakes. Then I want to smack the person.
Yes I'm gulty of using baby language onto my dog. I wish I didn't. Put the handcuffs on me judge.

Speech habits are hard to break. Once the syllables have registered on their brains, it is difficult to re-pattern them. Once the people are over 25, it is even more difficult. Many of these speech problems are learned from the parents, whose pronunciation is faulty. Another problem too is that many people slanguage...they develop a sort of short-hand and their English becomes less comprehensible...i.e. dropping the g off of words like working, running, etc. Now, many young people think it is 'cool' to speak thusly.

That is something that sends me crazy too. Often the voice goes higher as well just to make damned sure that the person trying to be sweet sounds even more idiotic.

I can't handle it either!

Do you mean when they are speaking to children or speaking in general? Both get on my nerves...

I have a friend and both of her children have speech problems and I truly believe it's because she spoke to them like this:

ba ba= bottle
da da= daddy
wa wa= water

You get the point!

Well yes they should realise, but some adults just never grow up!!! Personally if my parents spoke that I'd tell them off or just not be around them!!!

I have 2 friends that actually talk like that, its cute but makes them look silly but if there happy then I dont mind it!

It isnt intentional for one of them, she has tried speech classes and still pronounces some words different, she doesnt know why!

Maybe they work in an environment where they are around children all the time and just do it out of habit without realizing it. I agree with you though, it is annoying.

I thought it was confined to nursery school teachers.
What bugs me is the voices on CBBC. Obviously adults. How are children expected to learn to speak correctly when adults (especially Grandmothers) speak to them in 'baby-talk'?

I know a person who uses baby talk around adults. It drives me up the freakin' wall, I really don't like to be around that person much because of that.

I don't know. I can't stand it though. The only time I talk like a child is when I'm playing with a baby and still not very much of that time.
