I have a friend who is a believer and loves God a great deal. She and her husband tried to get pregnant for 11 years and went through many failed attempts at adoption (mostly because they didn't have enough money - that's another question for later) Anyway - another woman who calls herself a christian told her that the reason she couldn't get pregnant was because she had some hidden and unconfessed sin in her life. I think that is crazy talk! What do you think?

If that were true, then in theory, one shouldn't be able to get pregnant from an adulterous act. Yet, oddly enough, they still do.

I think your friend may want to see a doctor who specializes in that sort of thing - maybe it's something biological hindering pregnancy from happening.

oh boy...what a narrow minded and cruel thing to say to anyone! There is absolutely no correlation between the two. How about all those individuals who are not believers who are able to conceive? Having a hidden or unconfessed sin is not punishable by being denied the ability to procreate. This woman is being mean spirited and unnecessarily cruel. She needs to get a grip.

Sorry, but even evil people can get pregnant. Religions often play on people's insecurities to gain converts. This is especially true for those that say that bad things in your life are caused by displeasing some god in some way. This goes all the way back to when people used to pray to deer spirits after killing one. It's also the impetus for the story of Cain and Abel offering some of their harvest to appease God.

It's a good example of how belief in God's intervention in the world can drive some people towards extreme judgement, hypocrisy and misanthropy.

I think that the so-called Christian is speaking nonsense, but I acknowledge that she speaks for a small minority of Christians worldwide and the vast majority have more common sense than that.

If that was the case, I think God Himself would have revealed it to your friend before now.
But honestly, I think the other woman is a little out of line in suggesting that God is punishing your friend for hidden sin. Yes, as Christians, sometimes God does use difficult situations to bring us in line with His Word, but He usually lets us know this eventually. If your friend knows that she is in rightstanding with God, then she shouldn't worry about what that other woman said.

Whether or not that's true I don't know. But I don't think so. If in fact there might be sin its is a simple thing for a Christian to deal with it by just applying the following scripture:

1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

So simple, so easy.

I personally think that's insane. Maybe if she had done something horrible and it weighed upon her conscience, it might affect her health, but I don't know if it'd affect her ability to have a baby after 11 years.

Has your friend seen a doctor about it? If so, what did she or he say?
