Depending on your age, exercise might be more useful than using temporary measures. If you have a sedentary life style, it tends to restrict the ability of the intestines to move freely. Walking or riding a bicycle will help to prevent constipation. An old idea was that people should be cleansed often by a laxative, but it causes dehydration and a lost of electrolytes. Rather than a laxative, a stool softener is perhaps a better choice, and Metamucil is a natural product that is a stool softener. Increasing the consumption of fruit will help, but do it by steps or it may instead of simply being a laxative, it will become a diarrheal, with possible stomach cramps and gas. If constipation is an ongoing problem, then you must look for the source of the problem...diet, lack of exercise, fluid intake. There is little point in temporarily fixing a problem when it should be corrected for long term results.

Rhubarb is a wonderful-tasting natural laxative. I'd recommend stewed with yoghurt, cream or custard, or in a crumble or pie. But don't go overboard, as too much rhubarb will have the opposite effect! Strange but true.

Figs are good too, and delicious when they're fresh. I don't know about blueberries, but a lot of any fruit and/or veg will provide your body with lots of fibre, and this will flush your system out after a day or so. Also, prune juice is a laxative.

There are plenty of natural laxatives but 'Senna leafs' is the best and easy to find one (i.e. Sennacot). I got a patient of cancer in home and they usually have strong constipation problems...I found a remedy for that doing a smoothie or shake of papaya fruit, miralax or lactulose (check in pharmacies) drink it with some senna pills. That is enough!

Sorbitol, which is used as a sweetener for diabetic foods. Sometimes I buy sugar free candy or ice cream that says it's sweetened with splenda. About 30 min. later I get a stomach ache and diarrhea. I look at the container and there it is , sorbitol. It is naturally occurring in foods like prunes, plum, peaches but for me I would prefer oatmeal and yogurt. It doesn't make me sick. The fiber from the oatmeal and bacteria from yogurt help with regularity.

Prunes, oranges and any other sweet chewy fruit. (Think sundreid fruits like raisins)
Some proteins like eggs will make you very windy, but whether it acts as a laxative I cant say.(Never experienced something of the sort)
Also many cooking oils, but this isn't good for cholesterol. In my culture (Afrikaans South African) it is normal to give a child a spoon full of caster oil, it gives you the runs like crazy, but does clean out the system.

Most fruit, if you eat a large amount, will act as a natural laxative.

Also, fibers which are found in fruit and beans.

Any health food store has organic laxatives you can take.
Be careful with them, though

Oh SHOOT. There was a half-gallon bottle of prune juice in the refrigerator once and I decided to pour me a nice big glass. So I got me my plastic cup that holds about a quart and tossed in a few ice cubes and filled it up with the prune juice. In about 3-4 hours I suffered the biggest nuclear explosion since Chernobyl. "Damn" I said to myself, "this is awful". I cleaned up the wreckage.

Not getting the cause of it (people tell me that I am a dumb, stupid idiot and that my lights are dim) the next day I decided to have another big glass of prune juice. So I filled up my big cup and chugged it all down. In about 3-4 hours I had the second biggest nuclear explosion since Chernobyl. "Damn" I said to myself, "this is awful". I cleaned up the wreckage.

Finally it dawned on me that it was the prune juice. If you want to have the biggest rootin-tootin thunder-boomer imaginable just chug down a quart of prune juice all at once. Do not stray to far from the toitee, though, as all hell will break loose in short order.
