An engagement ring has traditionally been given as a symbol of a man’s intent to marry a woman. When the man proposes to the woman, the engagement ring is presented. The way it is presented may vary, but it is always presented when the question is asked. If the woman accepts the proposal, the engagement ring is worn throughout the engagement as a sign that she is no longer “available” for courtship.
Traditionally, the engagement ring is a gold or platinum band with a solitaire diamond atop it, however, it is not uncommon to see people using other types of rings or stones for their engagement ring.
The wedding ring is the ring that is given to the bride (and one also to the groom) at the wedding ceremony. The wedding rings signify the eternal bond and sanctity of marriage. The wedding ring is usually a single band without any seam, although many wedding bands are decorated with stones or intricate designs.

the engagment ring is the diamond you get when your fella pops the question, the wedding ring is generally a band that matches the engagement ring. the wedding ring generally isn't as flashy. some people prefer a simple wedding ring and no engagment ring. back in the day that is all that was exchanged, it's only in more recent years that an engagement ring is a "requirement" for marriage.

The engagement ring is a symbol that tells the world that this women is bound for marriage soon. So jump on her bones while you still got a chance....lol
The Wedding ring is the symbol that bounds the two people as one in matrimony and it symbolizes that, but it can be a p[iece of rope for that matter either way it usitlizes it as such.
Their both rings, but different types of rings for each purpose
Promise rings are usually a small inexpensive ring with a tiny diamond in it because if she decides not to want you, you aint lost much.
Now on the other hand, I gave my wife a two carat diamond ring when we got married and she lost it the first year we were married. (YIKES)...she cried for weeks and weeks after that happened. I purchased her another ring for $500.00 and she still has it today. You go figure!!!!!
We have been married for 24 years. I need say no more.
