He's just being a man, most men are like that and if you dump him chances are the next man you'll be with will be the same. Its a hard thing to deal with I know, but most men are like that. Hate me for saying this, but most men think its a sign of weakness, showing affection in public to strangers, I don't know why its like that but it just is. Although there are some men who aren't like that, if I was you I'd just have a talk with him, not really worth breaking up over.

Being a soldier often means that you must not show feelings! Neither to your companions nor to anyone else (you know: accepting any order without reacting...) So probably this habit is not a habit anymore but a 'normal' reaction. This has nothing to do with emotions but rather with the trained personality of militarys. Just try to accept it and PLEASE talk about your feelings but try not to be passionate: talk about it when you're not in a situation of being upset about it... good luck!

Well the army can change who you are and how you feel for people, Basic training has a big effect on people that opens there eyes up to the world. Another big one is deployment you can see things you don't want to see and it hard to change the way you feel afterwards. This will effect relationships because half the stuff you can't explain to people which makes it hard to get closer to GF in you are the civi world, all I can say is stay with him and try your best.

Those who have been in actual combat , still bear emotional trauma from having to kill and see others killed, which those who have seen combat feel that they have to uphold this stereotype macho image of being a soldier, they seem to forget that soldiers are just humans in uniforms.
