When guys say that to me, I think he's too dull to come up with anything original. I blow it off as "he's boring or just a player." You should come up with something original and see what happens.
Sometimes when people say it to me, I don't even say thank you because 1) I think they want to get into my pants 2) I hear it a lot, so it means nothing because I think people overuse it 3) I'm wondering why the guy is not original.
So try something else and see what happens.
