I'm going to take it as read that you have freshly roasted beans.
This is really really simple way to make a perfect cup of coffee...and anyone can do it...even you!
Grind your coffee when you are going to use it...not before. For drip method, grind in blade style grinder for 15 to 20 seconds. For French presses, grind for only 10 to 12 seconds.
Regardless of method, brew using 2 heaping tablespoons of coffee for each 6 ounces of clean water. Brewing with too little coffee will result in over-extraction, and that means bitterness. YES...that seems like a lot of coffee to use...but I don't care...do it anyway! Trust me...it'll be terrific. If it's too strong add a little hot water AFTER you're done brewing!
No matter what kind of coffee brewer you use...let's assume you have one that brews into a glass pot designed to sit on a heating element...well...the minute it's done brewing...put that coffee into a thermal carafe because your coffee will just get bitter if it sits on that heating element.
That's IT...that's all ya gotta do. Simple. Enjoy!

It all depends on your personal Tastes.
In general terms, though...
1.) High quality coffee beans. You may, as a beginner, choose Starbuck's beans. You are expected to grow out of them within 6 months.
2.) Proper roasting. Again, everyone's tastes differ, but the best Beans give up the best flavor when roasted very dark. If you like espresso you need the beans to be "burnt" looking. Avoid commercial brands that are only roasted to a cinnamon color--too weak.
3.) Freshly grinding. As a beginner, you may buy a $10.00 grinder at the Wal-Mart. Later on, try one of the new ones that grinds without adding heat, altering the flavors or the oils that are released.
A note about grinding. Yes. It IS vital to grind your own. Preground coffee will oxidize in contact with air and the flavor goes stale--sealing the ground coffee in a container helps, but fresh grinding is best.
4.) Proper brewing. If you like espresso, go on and buy that $150.00 machine. You are allowed to buy your first one from Starbuck's. Other than that, avoid cheap "Mr. Coffee" makers an buy a reputable brand of maker. I recently had an opportunity to drink coffee made in an old-fashioned percolator. I found it to be more mellow, and less acid-y than some kinds of coffee I've tried.
5.) Ignore any half-assed advice like this and enjoy coffee however You like it best

place on lid (do not plunge for at LEAST 5 minutes)
use half full fat milk and half semi-skimmed milk in a jug, microwave for 2 minutes

Are you utilising a solid high quality espresso? you may make investments the $.40 on the little plastic espresso scoop. Rule of thumb is two tbsp. espresso to 6 oz.. water (small mug, 0.5 a typical length mug). So, in case you get the information, you desire 2 scoops for each finished, standard sized mug you like. Un-p.c.. the espresso somewhat. The vacuum sealed packs are very densely packed in there, and a couple of tbsp. of it incredibly is going to comprise extra espresso than in case you "fluffed" it up with your scoop. i exploit chilly, filtered water. Are you buying the full beans and utilising the grinder on the keep? It helps ensure a sparkling espresso style. keep in a solid air tight field, interior the refrigerator. additionally ensure you placed the grinding gadget on the stunning putting on your espresso maker. it may take some journeys to the food market to locate a kind which you like, it varies for each man or woman. i admire 8 o'clock espresso-hazlenut flavored.
