a lot of religions have uniforms for women, like christain nuns and orthodox jewish women who shave their heads and wear wigs. Why do people pick on Muslim women so much that they can't see their own cultures. i,m a 14 yr old white girl and i live in an area with about 20 per cent muslims and they are so well behaved and friendly and i think the girls look beautiful in their scarves, they have interesting shops and wonderful food and a culture thousands of years older than ours. There are, i think, one billion muslims in the world today but so many people imagine Bin Lardin and his sisters every time they see a muslim, seems the same as me seeing Jim Jones and his itzy bitzy cult everytime a see a white person. i'm young, but please i have to say, and i dont wont to sound disrespectful but grow up please.

I believe it is, like the "hijaab" ( the Islamic head scarf of which you make mention), a sign of humility worn by the Roman Catholic nuns. Also, there are similar signs of humility among some of the menfolk whereby they shave a certain part of their head.

As per your question re: people picking on moslem women purely due to their "Hijaab", one could not very well engage in the same category of peurile activity with Roman Catholic Nuns, without running the risk of incurring the wrath of people such as Cardinal Pell.

Good Luck to you with your journey of knowledge and congratulations on having the courage to ask what many would consider "confronational" questions.

firstly, neither nuns, nor jewish women shave their heads. they do however, cover their natural hair out of modesty and nuns keep it quite short but it's not shaved.

your comparission was quite interesting and i hope people see it for what it's worth. too many people are biased toward the muslems. however, youth is a joyful thing - enjoy it - too soon, you will see this same thing happen to another culture. it happened to the Irish, Polish, Japanese, Black - every clture that's different is looked at with a cautious eye when they are new to the area. when one person does something it's reflective on the entire new culture. while it's stupid it's reality. read up on the japanese camps during WWII.
i'm glad you've realized that people are who they are and we need to get to know the individual before jumping on any bandwagon against them.

the main significant rationalization why the Nuns and Muslim women people are diverse are : [a million] Nuns positioned on the coif and the scapular to hide their shaved heads. Muslim women people have not got shaved heads. [2] Nuns do not make a Political assertion of their help to the Wahhabi Fundamentalists by using wearing hijab, yet, those Muslim women people wearing it do. [3] not in basic terms in France, yet, everywhere in the international, people ought to stay by using the guidelines of the Land. in case you have got a husband and spouse given a hundred lashes for kissing in the UAE, and girls people being being whipped and caned for wearing pants in the Islamic international places, then, what's incorrect with France imposing its regulation, the place they don't whip or cane you? bypass to the Islamic international places and spot who're the Racists. in case you like it there, then why stay here? .

Great question! Well researched!!!

I think you would make a great anthropologist, and I hope you go to college and do just that!

When I was little, I thought the muslim women were just more nuns, to be honest.

I can't imagine wearing such a think myself, but it would cut down on worrying about bad hair days.

I appreciate your post.

You know this argument has come up many times tht why is wearing of scarves an issue when a muslim does it n its ok for a nun to wear it. why?

People have answered tht nuns aren't forced to do it, whereas muslims are. Let me clear this concept that even muslim girls aren't forced. Islam tells them tht its important and when the girls realise this themselves, they take on the scarves. Many muslim girls dont wear it, cuz they dont understand the logic behind it. But there is logic!

Most nuns in the USA do not dress in a ''habit'' anymore. They dress modestly, but like anyone else, and do not cover their heads.

I do not know why people take notice of women who cover their heads as a religious respect and modesty. I think maybe it is because they are looking at themselves, and feel that they are not doing enough to express their own beliefs, on some. Others just like to be bigoted.

I have never seen the nuns here wear head scarves. They have some head coverings, but not scarves. For that reason, I am unable to answer the question.

You may be young but you are very smart! Your openess, your tolerance, and your kindness bode well for you as you grow into the world. Please do not let closeminded intolerant people divert you from the beautiful path through life that you are on. A lot of old people like me could learn from you. Smile, be happy! Know that you are beautiful and that you are loved eternally.

I am sure some of the girls look beautiful in their scarves. But they make fun of the nuns also if you are a nun you get none.

i agree ...why is there so much focus on Muslim women wearing the Hijab? its not about separating urself from the rest of the community...its just religious clothing...
i think the media frenzy has influenced ppl rather than ppl making up their own minds about Muslims...its a shame really...
