autumn / halloween is my favorite time of the year, and i have loved it all my life. i have a son who's only four years old. i know he would be very disappointed if halloween was banned. i think if u start banning things like halloween, u are punishing the children, rather than protecting them. like most things in life, it's not a problem as long as u are sensible about it. i go with my son, and only knock on doors of people who live on the same road as us. the problems only really occur when kids go out on their own, and start knocking on doors of people that they don't know...... really, it should be down to the parents to explain the pros and cons of halloween to their children.... and to make sure that their child/children goes out with a group of friends, or a parent/guardian......

Wow did you cause a ruckus! All Hallow Eve was intended to soothe the spirits. If I may it was also the children did during the famish of Ireland so they did not starve, the begging of food. The costumes are of another christian belief recognized by Pope Gregory IV, as all hallows eve thus taking the tradition and costume a s we have it today. Most kids go in groups, most parents go with the younger ones, I always had a strong rule of eating first
so as the appetite was suppressed, and no eating until all was put in the center of the table and inspected. Sad that we have to so carefully inspect this way. But it isn't the pedophile that we need to concern ourselves with so much as the malicious cruel. The quiet one, Our neighbor next door... Respect the tradition, do in moderation. and all can be safe..AND YES FUNNNN!!!

I don't think the holiday is purely about sending children out on their own to be the victim of perverts... In fact, I think anyone that did that with children who are young and valuable has parenting issues that we cant blame the holiday for.

Do you think we should also ban Easter because children going off on Easter Egg hunts are at the victim of perverts? We should certainly ban birthdays because blowing out candles can cause asthma attacks, and Christmas is offencive to all non christian denominations...

Whether you choose to participate or not, it seems wrong to ban a holiday simply because you don't approve of it, and I don't see how people could use it as an excuse to lapse in their parenting skills that should be present all the time anyway.

I am very against halloween for various reasons, one being the knocking on a strangers door asking for candy. The fact that there are child preditors (familywatchdog.com) LITERALLY on every corner of the safest neighborhoods in the country. I could never imagine letting my children go to there home and ask for candy.

As a responsible parent i always go with my 2, plus it is usually better to go in a small group and only knock on doors of people you know.

i dont hink halloween should be banned, but people could celebrate it by having parties. in our area the police have sent leaflets through the schools asking children not to go trick or treating, as its a danger to the kids and a nuisence to people and scary for the elderly or vunerable living alone.
its a shame that sociey these days doesnt safely allow our children the freedom that we had when we were children.

How many children have been assaulted due to knocking on a door at Hallowe'en? I haven't heard of any.

My objection to the festival is that it's yet another American phenomenon which we have eagerly embraced over the last few decades. So, incidentally, is an over-protective attitude to children.

noo Halloweens just a bit of fun and most kids only go around their neighbourhood with their parents, and more people are having parties now...I can't wait for halloween :), I do see your point though I think it should be against the law for children to be out without an adult!
