My six year old boys front tooth came out whilst he was having breakfast and he swallowed it!
His 1st came out on Friday and this is his second and he was absolutely devastated this morning as he's quite a sensitive little boy and for the first one he wrote a little note to the tooth fairy asking if he could please keep his tooth!

So, anyway, I am obviously going to have to attempt to "retrieve" this tooth when it comes out the other end! Any ideas how long that might take?!!

It is quite variable but about 36-48 hours would be normal.

Cant help wondering WHY ? you need to retrieve it ?

If it's about the money under the pillow.... just leave it anyway, and if it's about the sentimental value.... Sorry, I just dont understand that... Would you keep a toenail clipping ?

Pay up (as any good tooth fairy should) and have done with it.

Write a note to your boy from "the tooth fairy" saing sorry the tooth king needs it (the missing tooth) to help build his tooth castle, and give a little extra cash.

Shed teeth already harbour a lot of nasty bugs - once it's been through his body (should take 24hours if he's regular) if your brave enough - I would steep it in a 10% bleach solution to kill any bacteria for a good few hours.
But I don't think your wee boy understands that the tooth fairies are truly magical beings and understand that teeth are sometimes swallowed/lost. I would explain to him that the all-seeing fairies know that the tooth has been shed and will still leave him a wee pressie under his pillow!

it will take between 4 and 8 hours to pass through his system. Only thing is, it will be difficult to see if it does come out!!! The stomach acid may have dissolved it a little too. Best thing to do is write a little note to put under his pillow from the tooth fairy saying she knows he swallowed it, but heres some money anyway. ps. If you do retrieve it DO NOT GIVE IT BACK TO HIM!! It will have all sorts of germs on it, and I can guarentee he won't wash his hands after handling it.

Hi Evie

5 or 6 Hours however if you put a pillow over his bottom the tooth fairy might retrive it for you. However you'll need to wait for the pound coin.

Don't put your fingers in the poo! Just tell him that the tooth fairy needed it to help build the tooth castle where Barbies live when they die! Then take him to Warwick Mop on special instructions from the tooth fairy. He can then hook a duck!!

My son did that too, and he did it by eating an apple , I told him that the tooth fairys magic was able to transfer the tooth out of his body and left a letter and money anyway from him, saying by hook or by crook I will find any tooth....it worked, as I was no way raking through faeces that is so unhygienic and disgusting.

Hey no offence but yuk man - dont do that to yourself! I've got a little boy too and I feel you wanting to make him happy but why dont you just tell him the tooth fairy keeps them for something special (possibly say that when he gives one back a baby can get their first ones) and replaces them with a gift (or similar)? And that way he is helping other little kids by giving his teeth??

Unless you are prepared for the searching process (YUK) maybe best to just leave him the money anyway! lol Tell him the tooth fairy dropped by last night and counted his teeth, found one missing so left the money anyway. Thats what I would do.

ohhh this happened with my baby cousin before.
don't worry! don't try and retrieve the tooth, that's nasty. but then write a note from the "tooth fairy" and just say something like
"you" know he swallowed his tooth and still give him a coin or whatever the "tooth fairy" gives him =D
that should work. sorry if it doesnt!

Better ask the doctor... Just tell him that the toothfairy told him he could keep the next tooth and get twice as much $$ with the next one. You may never find the tooth, and it might never come out.
