I think all war sucks, for the "good" and "bad" side. Everyone looses lives, your enemies think they are just as right as you do. Not to criticize you, you are all very brave and it takes a big person to fight. I feel especially for the innocent lives who get ruined (civilians made refugees etc, my family came to my country as refugees, lost their own land and homes from right underneith them). I just wish that the people who are creating it all would get off their lazy a** and fight the battle themselves, you know? Do they really care about the individuals fighting and loosing their lives? A year is a long time... Bless you and I hope you keep safe.

One opinion from a European:
I'm *very* anti-war, especially in this case. I think that US politics is pretty much screwed up and that it's just not OK what's happening right now, but I do feel sympathy for all the soldiers down there who're doing their job. I cannot even imagine how it feels to be in constant danger of life.

I know a lot of people who share my view about the US, in some cases I would even call it hatred towards the government, most of them think that a lot of the civilian killings shouldn't have been happening but considering the soldiers' situation down there I'm in no position to judge.

Regarding your second question I actually think that any day in Iraq is a day too long (our country is also neutral per law since the end of WWII) so I cannot really comment on that.

I have a look at the "Honor of the fallen"-website every now and then and all the deaths and casualties make me so sad, so many young lives unlived... it really makes me wonder if it's all worth it.

Keep your chin up!

I protested going to war in Iraq before the war started. After it started anyway, two members of my graduating class died in Iraq within a year. Unfortunately we are kind of stuck there now because if we leave the country will immediately break out into a long and bloody civil war. I support our troops 110% and hope they all stay safe and healthy. Kill some terrorists while you're at it - those fu**ers killed two of my friends.

As for your other question - I think a year is the maximum time that anyone should be deployed in a war zone. Anything more could lead to permenant pyschological harm.

As a military wife of a deployed soldier (third-time around), I can tell you you ARE supported for what you do. Being deployed isn't a nice cup of tea, and the various reasons behind the deployment I may not wholly agree with, but that doesn't stop my support of the guys and gals who are there. Some of the troops were army before it all started (like my soldier), some joined later. None of that matters. What does matter is they, and you, didn't waiver when the orders came down. You took the orders, you packed your gear and you boarded that plane. No I don't agree with the length of time you guys are gone. I believe it's crippling the soldiers and the families. But we endure and we drive on. Good luck to you out there, and I pray for your safe return!

I think you are a soldier who do as they are commanded to do. I agree with some of the things being done in Iraq, but disagree with other things.

I will always support the soldier doing his job, but will not always support the war itself.

A year may seem like a long time to be in war, but history shows us that soldiers have spent more time than that in war. I don't know if it too long or not.

The American soldiers are volunteers and have my most heartfelt admiration and are in my prayers. I wish that we were finished there and they could all be back home but since we are not, I am praying for a speedy resolution. Our military leaders need to make some changes in their strategy somewhere to hasten this resolution. I support our goal of establishing a working Iraqi government that can stand alone (without the USA) but I do not think a year is too long if the goal is not met.

i think most of the country {well i do} support the military over seas. but not the reason. we have been there to long and need to get out. we feel that we were lied as for the reason that we went to begin with. now there is a civil war going on and on the news the other day they were saying that we will be there until 2010. when thanksgiving gets here next month we will have been fighting in Iraq longer then we did in WW2. but in plain simple words the troops we support. as far as a year at a time.. well i feel that is fair. not to keep going back but every branch had to serve a year back in Vietnam..while in WW2 you were their for the duration.. which do you want??? you also have to think of the logistics of moving all of that gear and men.

That is part of being in the military. You were just unlucky enough to join during conflict.
You voluntarily joined the military and the first thing you learn in the service is to follow orders. But you knew that going in.
I support you but I am not sure the war is a good thing anymore.
Pay attention while you are there. Come home safely.

I wish the soldiers the best and hope they come home soon. I don't agree with everything Bush says, but somethings. I have mixed feelings, and wish this war would end soon. One year is a long time.

I think it is terrible that our soldiers are over there, but I am going to support and pray for you guys 110%. My boyfriend is currently over there. I wish he was here with me, but I also know that he is putting his life on the line to save all of us over here in the US. God bless and keep you safe.
