I think you should live like the customs of the country you are living in does. If you are in a western country, act western, just like you make western women wear hijab or burka in eastern countries.

this is a wonderful decision you are planning on making. I have worn my hijab since i was twelve years of age. Now i am twenty years old with no regrets of my decision. It is obligatory to put on a hijab it is written in the quran. A minority of people oppose this fact.
Hijab libarates you and makes people understand your mind rather than look at your behind ;-). You can still wear outfits that are in for any season of the year. I wear qucci jeans and prada shoes, just as long as they don't reveal the your figure attracting the men to lust over you.

EDIT: Judith R, you clearly have NO idea what you are talking about. I am CURRENTLY IN A MIDDLE EASTERN COUNTRY, and have more freedom here to practice religion than i did in the US. I do not wear an abaya, or a hijab. I wear what i want, and i speak how i want, about what i want, to whomever i want.
You ignorance is disgusting, and it's blinding you.
From what i have read about the Hijab, it is not a mandatory item of clothing, but definitely a suggested one. The hijab originated from women who were not wearing them commonly being confused as Slaves, and that is why Mohammed (PBUH) commanded all women to wear the Hijab. Due to the increasing modernization of Islam many are pulling away from the Hijab to fit in better. This does not decrease your faith, only makes you feel more comfortable.
Do what you feel is best for you and your life situation.

I'm not Muslim but my mother is. I'm Catholic myself, but I take what I like from other religions including Islam. I believe that an Islamic woman should have the right to choose whether or not she wants to wear a hijab or a burkha or whatever when in public. Obviously at Mosque its required, but what a woman wears outside of that is hers to decide no one elses.

Yes it is an obligatory wearing a hijab for muslimas because it is spoken by Allah in the holy Qur'an.Muslimas should wear hijab when they are going out, because their hairs are included in their privy which should be covered from toes up to hairs..It is for sake of their security and safety from the ill will men who saw them.

As mentioned above, it is for modesty and no force is meant. I think in today's context it is not necessary. When we can get porn from the Internet for free and all the papers and TV channels are full of sexuality, loose jeans and even short-sleeved T-shirts are more than enough. But that's only my opinion. Most Muslims would say "wear it".

I'm not Muslim, although my wife is. She has never worn a headscarf and would not. The same is true of her mother.
Her mother is one of three sisters - one who is constantly covered, one who used to cover when she went out but decided not to about three years ago, and one who has never worn a scarf.
I respect all three of them equally. The Qur'an specifically asks for 'modesty' in dress but doesn't exactly outline what that modesty should be.
Thus it's up to each Muslim to interpret that how they see fit, in keeping with their personal, and societal, view of 'modesty'.
I know a good many Muslims who dress exactly as you do. I'm fine with any of the above. It's what's inside that counts.

Hijab stems from modesty, as advised in our religion. If you choose to wear it out of fear or obligation then i would recommend don't, coz it wouldnt mean anything to you inside.
It should be your personal decision to wear one.

Yes, I believe all heavenly religions either obligate or encourage wearing hijab, you can see even Christian Nuns cover their hair.

It is not obligatory, the qu'ran say cover your adournments (A decoration of colour or interest that is added to relieve plainness)
This was brought around when men went to war and adopted out of cultural myth
