Do something for him that he'll remember. Presents that last are bullshit, have a night on the town, take him someplace that he's always wanted to go... and I'm not talking the Denny's that just opened up on Main Street, I'm saying, book a flight to New York City or Europe or something else exciting like that.
Be something that he'll have to remember, not something that gives him junk that may or may not be significant.

First of all, set your budget. Boyfriend or any other relationship, you should never spend more than you can afford on a gift.
If he's not overly sensitive, get him some gag gifts for his 30th for starters. Something that makes fun of the milestone birthday, like a silly t-shirt. Then get him something small that complements him, like a coffee mug or some other drink cup/holder specifically about his favorite sport, team, or whatever. Spencers is a great place for these type of gifts.
Then Christmas should be sentimental and personal. Whatever his interests and hobbies are, find a way to include them in the gift, or even buy him something that he can use. Like if he's a golf nut, maybe a set of personalized golf balls or one of those simulators where he can practice his swing at home.
If you two have a sexually active relationship, his birthday would be the time for any erotic gifts; not Christmas where someone's family is more likely to see it. Things like lingerie, couple's massage kits, games, and even books can add spice to your bedroom, and give him something worth celebrating :-)
You know him, so use that knowledge. If you don't know him that well, then stick with something basic, but try to avoid gift cards and money; it's so impersonal.

anything that he had always wanted to have and he did not. not cause it was an expensive thing. it was cause he never thaught it was so important to him. like, if he always wanted a PS2, but he rather spent that much of money on your shopping, you should get him one then.

What does he like to do? Fishing? Football? Food? Ask him and go from there with your own ideas.
