You're all so lazy!!! (apart from the one who said roast chicken!) She said she wanted to "make" something, not get fast food and reheat it! How about avocado, parma ham and grapefruit salad with a lime dressing; beef olives, roast potatoes and steamed veg followed by a home made apple crumble and custard/ice cream.

To make beef olives just take a couple of pieces of really good, thin cut steak and spread with a sausagemeat mix with some seasoning, lemon zest etc, roll the steak up and secure with some string, then pan fry for a couple of minutes and stew in the oven for and hour and a half. Yum!

To make good roasties, peel and par boil (for about 10 min) some large potatoes then leave to cool and put in the fridge for a while. Put straight from the fridge into hot, hot fat and bake for about an hour, depending on size.

You like asian food? First, cook the rice, won't go wrong if you've a rice cooker. Heat a skillet filled with a tsp of cooking oil on stove (medium heat), place a piece of salmon fillet, sprinkle a dash of salt, keep it covered, cook for 7 minutes on each side. While the fish is being cooked, microwave half a cup of stir-fry/teriyaki sauce (covered to avoid splatter) in 30 seconds on high, take it out from microwave, pour frozen mix vegetable, cover and microwave for another 2 mins.

All done, scoop rice into a small bowl, place it onto the plate, place the fish and vegetables.

Dessert, get a can of mix fruits and pour in around a bowl of raspberry sorbet. Yummy. Let me know what you think. All can be done in 30mins.

* it's easier to cut meat when its slightly frozen
or you can substitute steam rice with fried rice

thin sliced beef in wine and cream sauce prep time 15 mins cooking time 20 mins
slice beef into thin strips
chop one small onion
chop one clove garlic
one glass of whine and one small tub off double cream

some fresh garden peas
and some potato fritters

first put on the peas to start cooking and start to fry the fritters it dosent matter if these are ready five mins before the meat as you can keep them warm in the oven but they do need to be ready before the meat.
for the meat cook the sliced beef in a little oil and butter cook till tender about 5 to 7 Min's drain the meat through a sieve keeping the juice then poor the juice back into the Pan and fry the onions and garlic if you wish you can also put some thin sliced mush rooms in add a bit more butter and fry till soft then pour in the wine and boil rapid for 2 to 3 Min's then add the cream and stir till thickened at this point put the meat back in and cook on a low heat for 5 Min's then serve that's why you need everything cooked at the same time enjoy

A lovely meal I make for my b/f when it is just the 2 of us is "fillet steak au poivre".. it is absolutely beautiful and simple to cook..

Coat 2 large fillet steaks in a little oil and lots of crushed black peppercorns, cook in a very hot frying pan for about 3½ mins each side for medium and leave on a plate to rest. Meanwhile, in a little butter fry of a couple of chopped shallots until softened then add 2tbsp brandy and turn the heat up to ignite - add100ml beef stock and 150ml double cream and simmer to reduce by half. Pour over the steaks and serve with veg of your choice - We prefer mange touts and new potatoes as the sauce is lovely and rich to dip the spuds into.

Good luck whatever dish you choose and enjoy spoiling your hubby x

First, make this chocolate mousse. It's sumptuous, sensuous, and luxurious, and guaranteed to leave you both with a lovely taste in your mouths. It also takes a while to set in the fridge.

Chocolate Mousse (traditional French style)
350g (12 oz) good quality dark chocolate *preferably at least 70% cocoa solids.
6 eggs, separated
30 ml (2 tablespoons) of the liqueur of your choice (cointreau, kirsch or baileys work well!

Melt the chocolate in a bain marie (a pan of gently simmering water, with a glass bowl on top - make sure it fits well, as you don't want any steam to get into your chocolate - it makes it go hard and split). Remove from heat, and beat in the yolks and then the liqueur, until it's at a smooth consistency. In another bowl, whip the egg whites, until they're stiff, and gently fold spoonfuls into the chocolate mixture. You can be quite vigourous in mixing in the first couple of spoonfuls, but after that, be careful and very gentle, as too much mixing will knock the air out of the egg whites. Pour into separate bowls, or 1 big serving dish, and refrigerate for 2-5 hours, when it should have set. You can decorate with whipped cream and flaked chocolate if desired, or just serve as is, or with langue de chat biscuits (cookies if you're American).

Then I'd start on the main course. Roast leg of lamb is always a favourite. If you use a sharp knife, make incisions in the fat on the outside of the lamb, and insert peeled cloves of garlic, and mini-sprigs of fresh rosemary, this will infuse the meat whilst it cooks. If you preheat the oven to as high a temperature as it will go, put the meat in for 15 minutes to seal, then turn it down as low as it will go, and slow-roast, it should be lovely, juicy and tender. I'd serve this with roast potatoes (parboiled, for 20 mins, cooled, then gently scored with a fork to mess up the outside - this makes them crispier, with beautiful soft fluffy insides. Then roast in some of the lamb fat, or veg oil on as high a heat as your oven will go to for 30-45 minutes, turning every 10-15 minutes until crispy and golden all over), peas mint sauce and gravy.

For a starter, you could always get some lobster claws from your fishmonger, boil and serve with melted butter, or boil some fresh shrimp and serve cold with lemon wedges. Both of these dishes require eating with your fingers, which is sensuous in itself, and peeling off the shells (which I've always thought is a bit suggestive!).

To drink, I'd recommend a dry white wine with the starter, and a nice red with the lamb. The dessert has liqueur in it already, so you could slosh a bit in with the coffee, and put a bit of whipped cream and cocoa powder on top.

Hope you have a superb evening! Whatever you do, enjoy!

I think men are basically meat and potatoes kinds of guys...

MENU:
Top Sirloin
Baked potato
Corn
Dinner salad/his favorite dressing.
Dinner roll

1-1/2lb Thick cut top sirloin.
1 tbsp olive oil
1 red peppers
1 green peppers
1 yellow pepper
1lb mushrooms
1 onion
garlic salt
pepper
I cube butter
sour cream
green onion tops/chives
1 glove of garlic

Wash potatoes cover in foil and bake one hour at 425.

Clean corn and cut off the kernel's while still uncooked. Melt 1/2 stick butter in pan, add corn kernels and season with salt and pepper, saute for 15-20 minutes.

Season top sirloin with garlic salt and pepper.
Heat olive oil in heavy skillet. Really hot so you can sear the top sirloin quickly on one side then the other. This will lock in the flavor and juices. Reduce heat and slow cook to rare, medium, well done, whatever he likes.

cut all the peppers into strips, slice mushrooms and onions saute in 1/2 cube of butter....

When steak is done.

Crush clove of garlic and add to sauteed pepper/mushroom/onions the last minute of cooking.

Serve steak slathered in sauteed veggies, Top baked potato with butter, sour cream, chives, add corn, dinner salad and roll.

Serve with wine or his favorite beer......Ice tea if you're teetotalers.....
