I think it has to do with the texture of tofu. It's a great source of protein and so good for you. It takes on the flavor of whatever you put it in.
I say it's texture....

Well any tofu that I have tried and not even known it was tofu when I tried it, for whatever reason the texture of it made me gag. I have been told that there is crappy tofu out there that will do that even to tofu lovers. Guess I've been unfortunate enough to end up trying this stuff. I know people who do eat it and say if you get the right kind theres no problem with it. If someone would tell me the right kind maybe I would try it and like it and not gag.

Tofu is wonderful. I love to cook with it.
For a treat, freeze your tofu overnight. Then let it thaw completely and squeeze all the water out of it.
The process changes the texture of the tofu so it is more meatlike. It will also better absorb the flavors of whatever is cooked with it.
I am from Asia where cooking with tofu has evolved into an art. Chefs can make it taste like beef, chicken, or fish.

Because people relate people with vegetarians and as you might know, people discriminate all those who are different to them.
What I don't really like too much is the 'real' food made of tofu. Specially the veggie hot dogs, they taste so bad. I like the patties though.
By the way, I'm Asian, so I have tried lots of good dishes made with tofu.

I love tofu of all kinds. The soft kind is great in soups and the tougher more sturdier types are great in stir-frys. Just be sure to set it out with a plate overtop to remove the excess water (or else stir-fry will become too watery). At most Thai restaurants, they usually have a deep fried tofu appetizer with a yummy sweet n' sour dipping sauce...so good!!!!

Because people suck? No, I'm totally kidding! I don't understand it, either. Must be just a fear of the "unknown." I love it, too, especially if you broaden the definition to include meat substitutes. There are so many good ones now! As a longtime vegetarian, my options were so limited until they started making things like "chicken" strips and "fajitas" - not to mention the wonderful veggie burgers (if you haven't tried Morningstar Farms' Grillers Prime, you don't know what you're missing!), hot dogs (especially the brats or Italian-style sausage), and "chicken" patties. I cook with them all the time, and my seriously carnivorous hubby loves them. I'll admit, Tofurky leaves something to be desired (although their lunch meat totally rocks), but I have served spaghetti and "meatballs" and baked ziti with "sausage" (the crumble kind) to several groups of people, and if I hadn't told them they were eating meat substitutes, 95% of them would never have been the wiser.
Tofu lovers unite! Viva la tofu! ;-)

I was born in California and never ate tofu in my life. It doesn't bother me. But if someone asked me to eat tofu turkey instead of real turkey Thanksgiving I would pass. I want the real thing not imitation.

It does not bother me at all. In fact, I like silken tofu desserts. I use regular tofu in soups or vegetable dishes.

Many people fear the unknown and to them tofu isn't something they use in their everyday lives. I use it on occasionally my son doesn't eat meat. I find it to be a great filler when I don't have a lot of meat since it takes on the flavor of what ever you cook it with no one is any wiser.

Because of the abject cruelty to the little tofus. Before they're ritually killed over several hours, they're tortured, maimed and teased to the point of insanity. The things some people will eat! It's disgusting, and you should be ashamed of yourself!!!
