'Monty' used inflatable tanks, trucks, cars etc to great effect during the build up to the battle of El Alamain. He made the Germans believe that his forces were building up to attack from a different direction.
As for todays forces I don't know.

it has been done before. I believe this was used by France once in WWII, though I don't know the details.
Hannibal once used this tactic against ancient Rome. He realized he was greatly outnumbered and the enemy army was approaching him at night. He had his men tie torches to all of their donkeys and pack animals, etc., and marched the pack animals one way. It looked like he had 3x as many men as he did while his real army went a different direction.
*edit: i think the guy above me is right, it was the US

My Mellow American best buddy, enable me only say that the Allies used inflatable rubber tanks, wood tanks and autos, even wood mockup airplane to misinform the Germans - in addition they used the presence of time-honored Geroge Patton and a mythical military close to the Pas de Calais - that's the shortest distance between Britain and France, to misinform the Germans as to the place the touchdown might ensue. in addition they used such contraptions as naming the British 6th Airborne branch 6th relatively of 2d Airborne branch - while in fact that they had six Parachute and Air touchdown Brigades obtainable, of which 2 Parachute and one Air touchdown Brigades are required to style a branch. Your destiny Prez.

Yes ! The US tried to use 72 inflatable virgins to make the Muslims they had already died and went to meet Allah. But the trick did not work ! The Muslims were already too familiar with inflatable toys.

Yes, but those are a defensive device and haven't been brought out into service because the U.S. military has been on the offense. The U.S. might bring some out to give bad info when using spy satellites.

I should believe that such a thing is being employed by veteran armies. But, that is too technical a question, only President Musharraf like alone can answer. It is good fodder for thought for those who think militarily, eat militarily, write militarily, hold peace talks militarily and even sleep militarily.

US did back in WWII. Now we simply hack their radar, send them false readings that have the same effect.
