Small Breed dogs in general are known to be picky eaters, but as humans we tend to reinforce this behavior by giving them treats or "dressing up" their food to try to get them to eat. The fact is, when your dog is hungry, it will eat. I recommend putting your dog on a high protein, nutrient dense food like Eukanuba Small Breed, following the feeding guidelines, and AVOIDING TABLE SCRAPS! Occasional treats are ok, especially as training aids, but your dog will get complete nutrition with a premium dog food..they do not need "people food"

Because you let it.
The dog knows you will give in, because you have in the past. Consitency is key with animals. They're very smart in their own way. If you give in once you'll give in again, and they know that.
Make sure you're giving it high quality dog food (not the cheapo walmart brand). Then leave out that food for the dog, and don't give it scraps or whatever other food you want to ween it away from. Eventually it will get hungry enough and eat what is available.

Do you feed it table scraps? If so, that is the answer. He/she knows there's something much better than dog food coming.
