I am considering starting a boxing group in my area with some friends. I was curious as to all the issues I will need to take care of in terms of liabilities and injury, etc. I think a boxing event would be tons of fun but need to get some outside input.

In my opinion, you need to contact USA Boxing, that is the amateur boxing governing body in the United States. They will send you a information packet out with applications for Coaches and Fighters. There is insurance available through this organization.
Once you (Gym) are a member you will receive a monthly news letter and your Gym gets put on a National registry of Boxing Gyms other clubs in your area will contact you when they have fights upcoming.
There is much more involved if you plan on putting on a Boxing show. You must notify the area President of USA Boxing about your upcoming event. You must secure at least three licensed Judges, a Doctor for physicals and to be present at ringside in the case one is needed and a Referee that is licensed through USA Boxing. There is also the question of a Ring if you own one or have to rent one. The ring must have the proper padding or the can terminate your application for the fight. It must have four (4) rope dividers (to keep the ropes from seperating, so a fighter doesn't fall out of the ring while leaning on the ropes) If you ring is elevated you must have the proper stairs for each fighter to enter the ring.
There are several other issue involved in this process, but when you apply for your USA Boxing application they will send you all information regarding putting on a show.
Personal note: You might want to put up signs around your Gym stating that, Boxing is a Dangerous Sport, serious injury and DEATH can happen while doing this sport. You must consult with your Doctor before you start to Box to see if you are healthy enough for this type of Sport.
