The smell. Unless it is an outdoor dog, then it would be the barking, the grassless patches in the yard and the toys. And there is always the proud owner pictures all over the house.

Lot's of dog hair, it would smell like a dog, and there would be dog toys, food bowls, food, or leashes. Also, look in their yard. Is there any dog 'business'?
