Given the debate about inclusion, surely another way that those who choose Great Britain as their home do so because of our way of life. That includes a common language between all the people of this land.

If we are to build a multicultural society, surely the only way it can function is if we continue to talk the same language. That of necessity is the only way we can all communicate.

By printing information in different languages, aren't Councils and the Government encouraging exclusion?

Wrong of them...everybody keeps saying that our forefathers were immigrants but todays illegal and pro-immigrant groups have not made the connection with the fact that our forefathers united under one language.

Live hear learn the language. For those who have difficulty their language tutors can explain. By their attitude the Government and Councils are making the situation worse. We have an alarming adult illiteracy rate, better to spend the cash on teaching every one a common language than encourage segregation.

I heard somewhere that it is an un-Godly amount of languages they print government forms in.

It is a huge expense on the taxpayers. What I mind is welfare forms printed in different languages so illegal aliens can apply for welfare. If they can't read they will be supplied an interpreter.

Learning English is one of the requirements for becoming a citizen of the United State!

So, all citizens should know English those that don't must not be a citizen.

I really don't understand why people care about this sort of stuff.
Some councils print information and forms in other languages, as well as English. So what?

What is important is that all children should learn English in school. And Welsh, if it is a Welsh school. If kids could learn any other language as well, it would be a bonus.

Is your purpose in printing the information to distribute the information or is it to force people to speak English. If you want people to be informed then if you got people who only speak Swahili you tell them what you need them to know in Swahili. even if what you are telling them about is an introductory English course. There are more than enough reasons for people to want to learn the local language, and most immigrants do their best to make sure that their kids can even if they themselves can't. Economics dictate this.

It is a gross waste of local taxpayers money. If they wish to live in this country they should be obliged to learn the language. By pandering to them in this way we are only making any possibility of integration less likely.

You are spot on, if they can't speak the lingo, don't let them into the country, I am a Brit born and bred and I holiday in Greece and the Isle's every year I don't expect them to speak English so I learnt to speak Greek.

British government is to weak to make a sensible decision like you suggest ,it amazes me why we dont insist the ability to speak english be the main criteria for immigrants.

If only for the fact that if they couldnt read what benefits they are entitled to the system would become more clogged, and it would cost the taxpayers a fortune in interpereters fees.
