My aunt and I got into an argument over sinning. Is smoking cig's a sin? I said it is and she says it isn't. I always thought that bringing something harmful into your body was considered a sin!

it is not a sin to smoke but if one decide to go back and see Heavenly Father faster can smoke more cause one will die faster that way. it is also not a sin to drink for a Christian, a little wine will also give us good health but if you drink and get drunk and starts to be under the influence of alcohol whereby one starts to be foolish then commit a sin - that's what call sinning

Amanda, lots of things are harmful to the body, not just cigarettes. In some areas, BREATHING brings harm to the body. Does this mean it's a sin to breathe?
For myself, I believe that only God can be the judge of whether or not smoking is a sin. That's one thing that can go one way or the other depending on the person.
For example, my father smoked, but he was a devout Christian to his dying day. I believe firmly that he's in heaven.
I smoke, but I'm a Christian. I've tried repeatedly to quit, and it just hasn't worked.
I think God understands that some people just CAN'T quit, even if they want to. Addictions are a tough thing to give up.
So as I said, it depends on the person. For some, it would be a sin. For others, it would not be.
Smoking is a gray area.

Smoking cig's is a sin, because it is harmful to the body. Inhaling exhaust from the car in front of you in traffic is harmful, eating trans-fats is harmful, thinking negative thoughts is harmful. Sin is sin....where does a person draw the line? Your aunt can smoke and laugh and eat carrot sticks and still be much healthier than than the non-smoker eating a bacon sandwich and feeling miserable.

Who's to judge??? Live and let live.

Harming our bodies in any way is like harming Gods creation. But if smoking is a sin, so is eating ANYTHING that is not COMPLETELY natural, over-eating at all, drinking, dying your hair, having your ears pierced, getting tattooed, doing anything that puts your safety at risk... etc.... The point is, you dont get into heaven by your ammount of sins, or lack of. When Jesus died, he did away with Moses' laws (the 10 commandments) so that we could not "earn" our ways into heaven with our actions. All that matters now is our hearts, and only our creator truly knows our heart. Dont get caught up on the small things. Sure, being a smoker is gross, but if its a sin, so is being fat. We should do our best to take care of the bodies that we are given, but more important is our eternal soul. True faith is often tainted by getting caught up in man-made traditionalist laws and ways of thinking that can date back hundreds, even thousands of years, but have NO biblical basis whatsoever. If you truly think that putting anything impure in your body is a SIN, then you better start getting all your food straight out of the garden, because pretty much everything we eat is packed full of artifical things that only harm us in the long run.

Anything we do too much of that is harmful to us is wrong. Sin is an attitude of the heart. Smoking is an easy one to point a finger at, I don't smoke anymore, but I do other things that aren't good for me. Don't be too harsh on the smoking thing. If she were stuck on chocolate bars everyday, it wouldn't be healthy, but would probably be more acceptable. This is one of those, "don't try to take the splinter out of someone elses eye until you remove the beam from your own" kind of questions.
God looks at the heart of man.

The Bible says clearly that our body is a temple of God.

So yes, smoking is defiling your body (thus, defiling a temple of God), and abusing God's gift of life. Smoking is basically suicide over time, so yes. It is corrupting your body.

Smoking, drugs, over-drinking (if you can control your drinking, then it's fine. It doesn't harm you, it actually helps you. But be careful of addiction. That is a sin.).

Well to be honest the bible say's your body is a temple treat it as such...Meaning that Tea, Caffiene, Tattoo's, Smoking, Drugs, Alchohol, Piercings are all sins in reference to the bible, it goes into explaining that you got to heaven with your heavenly body so to have tattoo's piercings and all that would not be a good thing hope this helps sweetie.....

Smoking is a sin. If your aunt doesn't agree then don't argue with her, you've done your duty by telling her what you believe.

so, allowing harmful things into your body is a sin...

therefore, you petition your politicians against air pollution and water pollution and you only eat fresh, healthy foods?

You check your house for carbon dioxide and gas fumes and you don't watch TV?

According to YOUR logic, even eating a bag of greasy, salty chips is a sin.
