If you are a heavy sleeper, it isn't really safe, but I sleep light, and have never had a problem, because I wake up if they move at all..I have found that most pups of that age will hold it through the night..

It depends on how he was already used to. If he was born out in the open, in a cage, at 10 weeks old he won't pee in your bed, but if born indoors in a bed made for the mom, most likely your bed will get wet. Anyway it is very important how you train your puppy, and you must be aware that little puppies grow up, and like all dogs will change hair, so if you do not want dog hair all over your bed, you should resist the temptation of letting him in bed with you , not even for one time.

A dog will instinctively not pee or poop where it sleeps. BUT! Your bed is to big of sleep area. He will find a section of the bed and go potty there. Best thing is to go get a crate and start crate training. At first he will cry and wine because he is in the crate. But that will soon pass as long as you don't take him out when he crys. If you do that he will soon learn that crying will get him his way. Dogs are natural denning animals. So when you start crate training always feed your pup in his crate and put a couple of his favorite toys and a chewy and he will start to see this as a safe comfortable place to be. Advise is to get a wire collapsible grate that has a adjustable divider in it. Reason? If he is only 10 wks old he is going to grow and you need to be able to adjust his sleep area. A to big of a crate? and he will find a place in the crate to go pottie. Besides you don't want to have to buy a bunch of different crates as he grows up. Good luck with your new pup. HAVE FUN!!!

I just got a puppy recently too and I understand your concern. I thought it'dbe cruel keeping the puppy in the crate. There's sth you need to know if it the 1st few night you spend with the puppy he/she is gonna be scare and I have to tell you even if you put them in the crate, they r gonna cry and whine alnight and you cant sleep either. I kept my puppy with me the first few night, lay my hand on her back so she feels more sercure. Puppy they know things too, they wont do their business where they sleep or eat. You make sure the puppy to take the puppy out b4 you go to bed, maybe in the middle of the night and I ensure you she wont pee in your bed and your bond will be even stronger. In case you decide it's much trouble to let her sleep in your bed, you can buy a cuddle stuff animal in the pet store, the one with the heart beat or you can put a clock in their for them with a warm bottle of water. You can watch the first night to see if they had do their business where they sleep. Like I said the first few night your puppy gonna feel very frighten in the new environment and this is the chance for you to show her you r the leader and build the bond between you two.
I know this is irralavant but I have my puppy slept with me since day one. She did pee on my futon once but honestly, puppy doesn't make much smell.
Good Luck

Puppies are adorable.....ours was too....but yes, cute they may be, and need tlc...but yes.....they do #1''s and 2's in the bed if they find and believe this is thier territory. Better to get a cozy crate with blankets, toys, etc...and keep it in the room with you....you won't have to check the sheets and the puppy will not feel alone ...

I have a three month old pup and she still has the problem of wetting the bed if I dont watch her closely. I got a pet training cage to put her in at night and that helps a lot.

Yes he will. Get him a doggy bed. Crate him during the day (while you are at work, school etc.), but not at night, let him sleep in his own bed, but watch out for him when he gets up to go to the bathroom.

You also need to remember, that if you let your pup sleep in your bed it will become acustomed to it.You dont mention breed or how big dog will be when full grown. If it's a large dog,and you dont want a 70 pound or more dog sleeping with you, don't let that cute little pup sleep with you either.Your dog will learn to associate the bed with a place it is ok to be.

If you let him sleep with you, you won't get much sleep. Every time he begins to squirm, he probably will need to go out to the potty. So about every 2 hours, or so, you will have to get out of bed to take him to the potty. Each month he should be able to last another hour longer. Good luck

Dogs need their space too, and cuddlin your pup in bed till you fall asleep may be your idea of a good time...but, I doubt the pup will think so...Especially if you roll over on him in the night!
I am a firm believer in crate training a dog..especially if you drape a blanket or cloth over it and leave just the front open. This is my pups room and I accord him the respect and privace of "his space" just as I do/did my children and their bedrooms.
Good Luck.
