Real credit restoration takes quite a while and in my 20+ years in banking, I have yet to find a "Credit Restoration" company that can do any good. Sure, they can correct errors on your report but if you've had a bad rating due to delinquency, then it stays with you until it's resolved.
Some of the Trustees or credit counselling companies can work out a "proposal" with your creditors whereby you pay so many cents on the dollar but a quick fix isn't out there. On average that would take 1 - 3 years as opposed to seven years if you went bankrupt.
In Canada if you decide to go bankrupt, you can finance a car almost immediately, buy a house in 2 years and get a credit card right away. In the US, it takes a little longer especially if you owe the IRS. Income tax is forgiven in bankruptcy in Canada.....in the US it is not.

Good luck.

My answer is: DON'T. I hired one of these scandalous credit-fixing places once, and she took off with my money. I learned enough to do it on my own, and then I learned more and found it wasn't even necessary. But, if you're the ethical (I am still but not in this regard) you just build good credit, ignore your creditors (assuming they are credit cards and that kind of Inc.) and you just build good credit. OK, but if you DO want to pay off your creditors, you call them and tell them you're broke but you might be able to pay something OR the whole thing but ONLY if the company will remove it from your report. Like, 50% of them do it and the others say: no way. If they say they will, you need to get it in writing before you pay a dime. Really. Thats all those 'credit restoration' companies do, and you can do it yourself. Your 'creditors' at this point are collection agencies! They bought your debt cheap and they at least want to break even.

You should look for a fee based certified financial planner to assist you with your credit report problems... I think they are more capable of how to deal with your credit history.. I believed that some of the credit restoration companys because they do not do any good buy charging you a lot of fees.

Do not pay someone to fix your credit report. You can do it yourself. There is simply nothing that someone else can do for you that you can't do for yourself. You just need to know how to do it. You should be able to get all of the negative items removed from your credit report in1 to 3 months. You might want to check out http://clean-credit-secrets.com for more infomation on how to do it yourself.
