No, it's not too much. Chocolate brown micro-fiber is very popular right now. Always check on the skeleton of the furniture before you buy it however. Make sure it's solid, press against the back of the sofa to see that there isn't too much give in the wood. The same goes for the arms, make sure they're securely attached. The life expectancy of a living-room set is about 5 years, that's not very long, but if the bones are good, it can be recovered in the future and last a very long time.

I have a creamy tan micro fiber sofa, chair and a half (just a big chair) and large ottoman which can be used the same way you described yours. I also use mine by putting a large tray on it and use it for a coffee table to serve guests. The set new cost $1600.
It is wonderfully comfortable - like sinking into a big marshmallow, and I like it. The main thing to ask yourself is "Do YOU like it? If it is something that you really like then enjoy. The price is not out of range for what you described if it is nice quality, and if it pleases you it is not too much to pay.

It depends on the size of the ottoman. Honestly, 1500 bucks is pretty darn expensive for a microfiber covered ottoman. Microfiber is one of the least expensive fabrics out there, and even large, contract type (like 54" square) ottomans from nice vendors usually don't break a thousand dollars in price.

Okay.. for me personally yeah that's WAY too much for just the ottoman. Even if it's to make it into a chaise... pretty pricey in my opinion.

For the set, no. Sounds like a good price for all pieces named. (I love chocolate brown furniture! Good color choice!)
