You are stupid when you think that there is no way that you are stupid. You are acting stupid when you understand there is a possiblility you could be stupid.

Now are you acting stupid or are you really stupid asking this question. Let me try and explain. Difference: acting stupid is when you really know but pretend you don't. Actually being stupid is when you really don't have a clue. The line is drawn with the IQ test and no not everyone is stupid you just meet a lot of people on Q/A acting stupid. I hope you got some stupid meaning out of my stupid response. Or are you just really stupid and can't get it. Or has the line been drawn? Cross over and think outside the box. It will be OK I promise.

RE:
What is the difference between acting stupid and actually being stupid?
Where is the line drawn or is there a line, or is everyone just stupid, really?

Being stupid is a disability some people have and can't change it, acting stupid you know the answers too you just do not wish to reveal that you have the knowledge.

When you use stupid in this manner, it is an adjective and therefore describes the person. That is to say that the person is temporarily appearing to be stupid. However, if you add LY to stupid, you get the adverb form. If someone is acting stupidly, there is no question there. They are either performing on stage in a poor manner or more commonly, they are making poor (or stupid) decisions.

When one is being stupid, one does not know that he/she is being stupid. The one acting stupid actually knows what's stupid and what's not, but chooses to act stupid.
It's easier to change the behavior of someone who is acting stupid than someone who is being stupid.

There is a difference. Acting stupid is when you know what you are doing is stupid and you still do it anyways. Being stupid you don't realize what you are doing is stupid. You might realize it later on, but it's still being stupid, not acting. that's at least how I think of it. And I believe that everyone acts stupid sometimes, and I believe that everyone is stupid sometimes, only to realize it later on in life. and for those who don't realize it later on, I worry about them... I really do.

All stupid people are really stupid and they can't help it. But those who act stupid are not really stupid, but just acting and can help it. In other words, all stupid people are stupid, and those who act stupid are actors.

Getting technical, "dumb" actually means mute, but people who were unable to speak were often assumed to be stupid. In modern usage, it seems to me that calling someone a dummy or dumb implies a more temporary stupidity. You can be a genius who acts dumb once in a while, but if you're a dummy every day, you're stupid.
