I really would like to take him since technically it is his first halloween but am wondering if people will look at me weird knowing he can't eat the candy, what do you think...

My birthday is October 11, and I went Trick-Or-Treating at like 3 weeks as a bunny. People think it's cute! I'm 18 as of 5 days ago, and there's home videos of me in my little bunny costume going door to door with my mommy. And it doesn't matter if he can't eat the candy, that's what you are for! It's just cute! And if you're worried about having him out late or anything, then you could just take him to neighbors that you know. Plus, babies are completely adorable, and everyone loves a baby in costume. Maybe I'm just partial because my mom siezed every oportunity to dress me up in something, but I think it's cute!

He can't walk and he can't eat candy. He will never remember his first halloween. You can dress him up cute and take pictures and maybe bring him to some houses of close friends or family. But don't ask for candy. Just show his off in his cute outfit. Personally I would take pictures of him next to pumpkins or of you holding him in a pumpkin patch. He is too young for any Halloween makeup or a mask. Just put a cute hat on him or something. There are outfits for babies that look like cows, crayons, tootsie rolls, etc. And rarely cheap. Or look around your house and dress him up from your things. He's old enough to try a little pumpkin pudding. My son loved that! and still does (he's 11 now) Decorate a room in your house with cute Halloween things (no skulls or blood or spiders) and take pictures to make an holiday album. He won't remember but you will. It can be exciting for you.

Have fun with him!

For my first child, I didn't take her out because she couldn't eat the candy and I thought it would be silly that I'd be collecting candy for me to eat. We had fun. I decorated the doorway and she enjoyed seeing the other kids dressed up. She was too young to appreciate trick-or-treating.
She is 2 this year and we will probably take her to a couple of neighbor's houses. We'll take my 5 month old along just because his sister will be going and it's fun to dress them up. But, I won't get any candy for him.

well it would be better to take him than leave him at home,
i think the old witches wandering around might steal a nice little baby .. woooooooo oo spooky .. ha ha
the rest is copied from a site on the web
On the night before, however, All Hallow's Eve, the spirits of those dead would return to walk the earth one last time. Now, not everyone who had died that year was necessarily good- every year saw its share of evil people who had also died. To keep those evils spirits from entering their homes, people would dress in disguise to scare the spirits away.
Halloween is associated with the images of ghosts (from the days of All Hallows Day), witches, skeletons and bats. The connection with witches probably comes from the Puritans in America, who considered the Wiccan celebration of the October harvest an evil event, and of course, who severely punished "witches". Spiders and bats are just plain creepy to most people, and the fact that bats are night creatures makes them perfect animals for Halloween.

Take him to family and friends houses to show off how cute he is all dressed up! I don't think anything is wrong with it. I took my kids their first halloween (10 months and 7 / 8 months) and grandma's got them new bibs / little toys etc instead of candy!

Unless you have an older child you can take along, yes it's weird to take him to strangers houses for candy. Dress him up and take him to the grandparents or take a picture of him for the photo album. My daughter (first child) didn't go until she was 3 years and that was just to the neighbors we knew around us (about 5 houses). My son went at 1 year because he was with his sister. Up until she went, my daughter dressed up and helped me pass out the candy.

my son just turned 6 months on the 10th and I am taking him trick or treating.. I don't think that they will look at you weird for it. I see babies here all the time with their parents... ( I also have a 2 year old that is going) Take him and have fun...

Yes, they'll look at you funny. Put him in a costume and take him to a few neighbors that you know. And only those people.

My first was 4 weeks old on Halloween and that's what I did.

I generally think it's rude when people show up to my door trick-or-treating with an infant. How about stopping by a couple friends' houses for the costume photo-op and 'first halloween' experience instead?

Sure take him. In fact if there is a little group of neighbor kids going out, you might want to go along with them and let him be part of the gang for a few houses. Everyone will get a kick out of seeing him in whatever adorable costume you come up with. Don't keep him out a long time but just enough to be part of the experience. He might get a big thrill out of seeing the trick or treaters who come to your house too.
